GLA University B.Tech Review By Rahul Sharma

Engineering was my passion and what best than having a great college in my own city. The college is a private college and is a university in itself. The college offers management, commerce, arts, and engineering courses. For Engineering the college has its own entrance test known as GLAET. The seats are plenty and the candidates applying for it are also huge. Thus, it takes some doing to get admission in the college. The campus size of the University is big and the strength too. The college has all the attributes to take the land of Krishna to the global map.

The college has a syllabus that is hard to find. The courses felt like been created to impart the best knowledge in the students. The college added a lot of subjects on their own and were not at all relevant to the stream but couldn’t dare to ask the University why? Each stream had over 400 students divided in 4 sections. The university did great to make sure that not just the syllabus is covered but also revisions are done. Like in most of the engineering colleges the attendance is quite strict here and missing classes landed many in trouble. I had just a shade less than 75 percent in 3rd semester and was given a threat that I may be denied to write the exams. Fortunately after a lot of request I was allowed and that is how the system at GLA is.

Maximum faculty members had double degrees and had a great experience in teaching as well. The institute started our stream of Engineering in 1999 and 3-4 professors are teaching from thereon. Thousands and thousands of students have passed out from this college and faculty has done their bit in making them. There’s no deny that faculty has been on their toes as teaching these many students and also remembering some of them is never easy. Even after passing out I am in touch with some of our great faculty members and they are still more than happy to help me. Our chancellor Narayan Sir was so strict and also asked students to write to him or see him personally if any faculty has troubled them.

The college is owned by an influential personality of Mathura and therefore many companies from Mumbai, Delhi, and Hyderabad come to recruit students from our campus. Every year nearly 3-4k students from GLA gets placed in some of the blue-chip names such as Dish TV, Airtel, HP, and Accenture among many others. Every year few lucky ones get the package of over Rs. 10 lakhs but those are few as the average is round about Rs. 4-5 lakhs per annum. The college placement cell is headed by some of the finest professors who make sure that students can approach them with their grades and the kind of corporate they want to join. The college has done exceptionally well in maintaining its stance on placements. The rate is little less as nearly 70% of the students got placed but I wish it becomes 100% soon.

There are 3 hostels in the University campus as 2 are boys hostels and 1 is a girls hostel. In boys hostel there is a choice to choose from twin sharing or triple sharing rooms. The hostel building is clean but the rooms aren’t. The students never keep them tidy and the hostel managers too don’t bother much about it. I was a local and thank God I could stay home because I couldn’t have stayed at such a place. Having said that hostel was not bad as the rooms are huge and there’s security cameras installed in every corner of the hostel. The girl’s hostel is in opposite direction and after 6pm the boys were not allowed to go near the girl’s hostel. Thus they have restrictions in place and that was good to see.

The land in which the university is spread across is unbelievable. It’s spread across in over 100 acres of land and has various buildings as each department has their own setup in the campus. The classrooms are all air-conditioned and are also quite spacious. Inside the campus there is a SBI Bank branch and also a 24 hours ATM as well. There are enough open spaces and a proper field to play sports at the campus. In addition to outdoor, the college also has accommodated all the indoor sports facility as well. There’s one huge stage installed where the annual event is hosted. The heart of any university, that is canteen is also there and a huge cafeteria as well.

I always had the vision of joining this college as it is closer to my residence. However, what the life inside the campus is like had no idea about it. Every year cultural programs and sports week was hosted and each department was asked to send their best teams. The competition factor played a huge role in anything that we pursued in the college as the University strength was so high. To kick start the first year, even jam sessions were allowed at the college campus and was the best time to make friends.
