Symbiosis College of Arts and Commerce B.Com Review By Chirag Jadhav

We stay at Bhandarkar Road and Symbiosis was something I used to cross daily whenever I passed from SB Road. From childhood I made sure that I will study at Symbiosis. After 10th, as soon as the centralized form was out, I preferred Symbiosis as my first choice and got it in the first list itself. The admission process for junior colleges in Pune is quite simple. Talking about Symbiosis the college is ranked among the top colleges in the country and there’s a reason for that.

The college has all the attributes that makes it the best college like the teachers, the facilities, and the environment. Not just studies but the college believed in overall development of the students and therefore we were provided various opportunities beyond academics as well. Learned a lot of things during my college time and this is why I have gained this confidence. Don’t know how to rate the college as for me thankfully never had to leave my city because the best college was in my city.

School and college are two different creatures and I learned about it after I joined the college. There was no strictness no homework’s or no after studying required to gain the passing marks. The college staff was good and made sure that while we were in junior college we get our basics clear as in commerce I believe that those who pass 11th and 12th can clear B.Com at least.

This is what college taught us and has infiltrated in their academics as well. Equally strict for the junior college students and equally lenient for the senior college students. Let me share an incident while in senior college, I went to the class for a lecture and while at the gate teacher told me as don’t worry you can leave because you are not regular and please let the serious students study. I wish I was regular then as I miss the college more than ever.

Never got the opportunity to know them as I hardly attended during B.Com. Commenting won’t be right from my part as little do I know about them and their teaching methods. Practical were important and during submissions we were even asked a lot. The scores were sent to the University and therefore I and student like me only got passing marks in them. Overall the faculty was nice as they had hoards of degrees behind them.

The management is influential and therefore they made industry leaders visit the campus every year. Sadly that few of us got placed as I was always interested in higher studies and went for it as well. Mostly banks were the front runners and were given job worth Rs. 3-4 lakhs package. I still remember some people boasting it as if they have acquired a package worth Rs. 10 lakhs. But if I compare it with other colleges in Pune no college has on campus placement for B.Com and this is where Symbiosis stands out. Hats off to the college that at least opportunities were provided and I am sure it would have only bettered in the recent years.

There was just 1 NRI hostel as the college campus didn’t have any hostel. In all the new campuses that are built have hostels but the main campus of SB Road didn’t had any. 20-30% of the crowd was from different states of India and they used to rent flats or PGs as per their convenience and that is how they managed in Pune.

A pocket sized campus but full of life. During our time it was a pool of colleges as BBA College, Law College and MBA including our college was at the same campus. Will have to give credit to the college for managing 4 colleges in the same campus. The timings were designed according like the senior college and the BBA College in the morning, and Law College and Junior college in noon.

The college had 2 canteens, 1 library and a small gym inside the small campus. A volleyball ground which was near the hostel building but college students were allowed. Outside the main campus building there was another campus that belonged to college. The NRI hostel and 4-wheeler parking was there. Besides this we didn’t had anything in the campus. The buildings were white and blue and renovated every 2 years and they looked new or should I say the same by the time I saw it first.

Until 3 years back the college gave entry even to outsiders but things have changed now and only the students with valid I card are allowed inside the campus. Thus the campus has become quite secure now as a decade back there were numerous fights that were picked up in and around the campus. The students were rusticated or suspended but still harmed the reputation of the college. Otherwise though the campus was full of life as students used to rush during the college hours and I certainly had a time of my life while I was in the college.

Even today when I passed through the college I do take a minute to realize what this college meant to me. If there’s a place that holds the biggest regards in my life, it’s Symbiosis College.
