Ravenshaw University B.Com Review By Pratyush Kumar Gwala

I am a final year student of B.Com. The experience is tremendous. Undoubtedly one of the best government colleges in Odisha. Taking about academics the faculty is up to mark, and yes, this year the college is bit serious with the attendance. The campus environment is safe and amazing, every facility is being provided. There is 7 boys’ hostel and 6 girls' hostel in the campus, hostel is allotted in merit basis. And if you get hostel then get ready for an adventurous life. The college also provides various placements.

I'm a B.Com student so will be talking especially about it. Students are selected on merit basis last year's cutoff was about 88% there are around 270 seats for B.Com The personal benefit for taking admission in Ravenshaw for B.Com is that there's less issue with attendance. It will benefit those who are pursuing CA/ CMA/ CS along with graduation. But this year onwards they are serious about the attendance at least 75% attendance is required otherwise they decrease marks in semester exams. We got good faculty in B.Com Good company reaches for placements, enrollment for it starts from 5th semester onwards.

As I'm a B.Com student, so I am going to talk only about my department. In commerce there's always an availability of faculty, if the professor is absent the assistant professor takes the lecture. Usually, the teachers never miss any classes, in our department the teachers complete the lectures timely. I found most of the teacher’s average; hence few are very well and highly educated. Here teachers mostly teach in Odia & English. The teachers are lenient, and students are comfortable to ask for any doubts. Hence would like to conclude that teachers are up to mark just go classes regularly.

Ravenshaw students get plenty of placements as compared to any government institutions. Students gets the placements call during their final year both undergraduate and postgraduate students. The packages provided aren't much high but are sufficient. BBA, B.Com, ITM and CS department gets many placements offers. Companies like Accenture, TCS, Deloitte, Wipro, etc. do provide placements. The placement professor usually sends placements offers in the group. Consider no backs in semester papers to get placed in a good company.

Ravenshaw's hostel is the best, there are 7 boys' hostel and 6 girls' hostel in the campus. Students are selected for the hostel on merit basis and followed by some reservations. I got West Hostel according to the merit basis. We have got all infrastructure facilities in the hostel. In my hostel there's 4-seater room and most especially only West and East hostel provides single room facilities; students of Final year get their single room that too in merit basis. All hostels have their different mess. All hostels have a separate study room and TV is all provided. Washrooms are also all good.

Ravenshaw is also known as Red Empire; despite being the oldest University of the State it's well maintained. The campus larges consisting of all essential facilities and hostel within the campus. There are around 25 departments, and all departments have separate block. Most of the departments have their own seminar hall too. There's a huge auditorium inside the seven pillars of the university where many events take place. Inside the seven pillars there are 3 annexures where mostly seminar takes place, many state level events are also conducted inside it. The university has a huge ground there's two cricket ground in the ground, and a separate volleyball court, basketball and tennis court. The campus infrastructure includes 7 boys’ hostel and 6 girl’s hostels. There's a dispensary for any medical urgency. The campus also has 2 indoor halls for badminton, table tennis, etc. a separate yoga hall and 2 gyms one for boys and another for girls. Ravenshaw has now one more campus near the Mahanadi shore the campus has inaugurated recently.

The campus has a holistic environment. Till now the hostel life was full of enjoyment. If you are coming to this college, get ready to have an interesting journey, you get to know many amazing people from the different places. The departments students are very engaged, all the departments conduct their separate freshers and farewell party. There are number of events sports and cultural takes places every month. You will always find the campus full of enthusiasm and the ground too. The front lawn is full during the evening time and students spend a quality time there. There are various clubs for the students like debate club, quiz club, literary club, sports, etc. the group select people and they represent University in state level. Ravenshaw is the proper place to embrace your talent and be your best version. The hostel also conducts various sports plus academic activities.
