Vellore Institute of Technology B.Tech Review By Cavin Allwyn Monis

I have joined VIT Vellore this year, 2023 in the course, B.Tech Computer Science Engineering. The campus here is vast and spectacular with so much greenery and academic blocks, I absolutely love it. I got a rank of 2921 in the VITEEE exam and got category 2 CSE Core, and I didn't have any other option which was at par with VIT. I would like to tell everyone that you will never regret the decision of coming here. It is an amazing institution.

My branch is B.Tech Computer Science Engineering Core. My branch doesn't have any entry level requirements (even other branches don't have any previously required knowledge). The syllabus for computer science is python for the first semester and slowly we get to other programming languages such as C, C++, Java, etc. I was really interested in joining CSE Core, since the core branch has the choice of opting where you want to specialise in later on. I've planned to choose ethical hacking since it helps in protecting data privacy of many people and it also operates within the bounds of the law. It also creates a challenge to outsmart cyber criminals which is exciting.

The faculty here is very nice. They are all Ph.D Professors with many years of experience in the field of teaching. Some of them are from IITs. There is a professor for every 10 students. We can go their cabin and clear our doubts as well, and if they aren't available then assistant professor are also ready to help. In the very first year, we have Physics, BEEE, Chemistry and Calculus as the main theory subjects which have 2 mid semester exams and final exam whereas Python is a lab class which will have an exam in the end. The entire faculty makes sure that everyone understands the concept taught before moving to the next topic. There is also online course material (PDF and PowerPoint presentation) uploaded on the website which can referred at any time which is really helpful during exams. They all speak in English as well if anyone was worried that they'll speak their native language.

Yes, our institute has a Placement Cell and it really helps students get the jobs they aspire to get. The average package at VIT is 9 LPA with many super dream and marquee companies offering 20 and 25+ LPA.

Yes, we do have hostels in VIT. The hostel life here is very nice, an amazing experience. The mess food is also very good and is nearby too, so you don't have to walk much for 3 meals. I am staying in a 3 bed AC room with 2 roommates. There are 10 floors in our hostel block and there are approximately 15 hostel blocks such as mine. There are also 3 Ladies hostel blocks which is gated as well. The hostel in time is 9pm after which we aren't allowed outside the block and then attendance takes place. There is also Movie night, DJ night, etc on weekends once each month. There are supervisors on ground floor all the time for any emergency at any time.

There are many academic blocks in VIT campus all spread out for more accessibility. For most students, the important blocks are SJT (Silver Jubilee Tower), TT (Technology Tower) and PRP (Pearl Research Park) out of which TT is the oldest. All of them still look very beautiful and lush with many trees planted near them. They also have their own stationary shops and food stores inside the building in case you need them. The classes are also quite big which could accommodate 70 to 80 students.

You will have an excellent campus life at VIT Vellore. There are fests too, which are GraVITas (Tech fest) and Riviera (Cultural fest). Both fests have immense participation and are a lot of fun where you learn so much as well. In Riviera, many well known speakers, comedians, Youtubers and movie actors come to VIT. There is also a place called Foodys where dance and music clubs regularly practice and perform their arts. It is really a once in a lifetime experience.
