St. Thomas College is one of the top Colleges in Kolkata. The college has the ambiance required to grow oneself and acquire knowledge and skills.

Students from all over India take admission to this college. The candidate needs to appear for the JEE tests and secure a minimum of 15000 and 60% marks in HS to take admission to this college. Overall I would say that candidates willing to pursue technical courses can take admission in STCET.

STCET offers undergraduate (BE) courses in four different disciplines, including Computer Science Engg., Information Technology, ECE, and Electrical Engg. College hours are from 9:30 pm to 5:30 pm. The BE Course has a 4-year duration with two semesters every year. It covers a total of 40 papers, including engineering economics, and has core departmental papers. There are eight semesters & in each Semester, you will get to learn new things. From the 7th Semester, you will have elective papers, participate in practical projects.

The courses are offered based on merit. I was inclined towards Computer Science and took admission in IT Dept. As I told, one needs to appear for the Joint Entrance or AIEEE Examination after completing HS to take admission. Consider your subject of interest and job. The college offers industrial training and conducts placement training, so rest assured that you have a fair chance of getting a job.

College faculties are qualified, helpful, and knowledgeable. Most of them are Ph.D. Holders. Each department has a HOD. Professors won’t just impart knowledge but would guide you in all situations. They have equal considerations for the toppers and mediocre. They are friendly but strict about attendance and college timings.

You will have a mentor who helps you with projects and motivates you for higher education. As practical knowledge is important for engineering students, faculties would help you understand the topic theoretically and practically. The college organizes seminars and workshops to help the students get familiarized with technological advancements.

The college has a proven placement record. Roles like an associate trainee, program analyst, and trainee engineer are offered to the candidates. In each year than 85%, percent of students get jobs. In the 2019 batch, there were about 280 job offers for about 250 students. Some students got more than one offer.

Students get employed in companies like Wipro, Infosys, ITC, and Cognizant. Cognizant had 123 offers for Pat, four offers for the associate trainee with a salary package of Rs. 6.5 LPA. Companies like Indus Net Technologies, Infotech visit STCET for placements. During the 7th Semester break, we had internships in companies like Factor Digital and Apsolution Technologies.

St Thomas Engg. College does not have their own hostel. But, you can stay in a private hostel at affordable rates.

The college has well-ventilated and well-built classrooms. The students have access to the digital library and Wi-Fi before and after college hours. It offers you a subscription to IEEE newsletters that helps to enhance your knowledge. The library is spacious enough to accommodate 200 students at a time.

The quality of food served in the college canteen is good. There is a separate menu for the morning, evening, and afternoon snacks. There are separate laboratories for CSE and IT Departments. Each computer lab includes a first aid kit for emergency purposes.

I loved the college campus life. The college has three sports grounds, and you can take part in sports and other activities. STCET organizes annual sports, tech fests, and cultural fests. It helps in removing the barriers between juniors and seniors. Girls can participate in outdoor sports like cricket and volleyball. Fests and other events make our campus life memorable.
