Institute of Home Economics B.Sc Review By Avni Khajuria

My entry in Institute of Home Economics was very unpredictable. The college seems to be very good but the campus was very small. The college is not very renowned and is a part of Delhi University. Delhi University is the best university in India. IHE was famous for its academics. It has an amazing faculty and academics in comparison to the other Home Science college of DU.

The college is mainly for Home Science Courses along with Journalism, Microbiology and Biochemistry. There's no entrance exam for enrolling in Home Science courses. The maximum cut off for B.Sc Home Science goes 85% and it comes down to 76%. Home Science is a very vast course, you can have end number of options.

Every semester has some new subjects and you can explore your career interest till the end. You can have n number of job opportunities if you graduate from this course. And let me just clear one doubt for you- NO Home Science is not at all about just cooking or stitching you can be a Psychologist, dietitian, Interior Designer, Teacher and so much more.

Institute of Home Economics is surely famous for its amazing and experience faculty. The teachers are all Doctorates in their fields. IHE has almost 50-70 teachers all are specialized in their subjects. They provide you with the best knowledge and study material for your exams and studying from such amazing teachers always feel like you are studying from your mothers. They are so warm and understanding. IHE is one of the best college of Delhi University in terms of faculty and teaching style.

The Placement cell of Institute of Home Economics is active for last few years. Many companies visit college for campus placements like Aiesec, Green Peace, Nutriobox, Kollege Konnection, etc. This year due to the global pandemic placements were not done but last year many interviews happened and the companies loved the response from students of IHE. The list of selected students is not out yet. The details for the same will be revealed very soon.

No, IHE doesn't provide any Hostel Facility but there are many PG's nearby. Many of my friends live there and are quite satisfied with the facilities.

As mentioned above, the college campus is very small. IHE have only 2 buildings and no garden area. When one enters the college you get into the Foyer. Foyer is the area where mostly Orientations take place. There is a girls common room which is also known as GCR. Girls can relax and complete assignments there.

There is an amphitheater, basement, 15 theory rooms, more than 10 laboratories for practicals. Cafeteria is also not that big and is attached to Shaamiana, the basketball court and stage. The cafeteria has a seating area where students eat and relax. Medical room is active and provides all type of first aid care. The library is not too big neither too small but has amazing books related to every area of study. The entrance of college is very beautiful and it surely attracts every student.

The Campus life is amazing in IHE. There are many societies for students to enjoy. I am the Vice-President of Poise- The Fashion Society of IHE. Poise is ranked as the number one Fashion Society by Du beat. Other than Poise we have Eleganza - The Dance Society, Tarkaas- The Music Society, Muzzaihra- The Debating Society, Irresidence - The Art society and many more.

You can join any Society in your first year and you'll see a completely different and confident person after your final year. One should definitely join a society to groom their personality. The Fest of IHE is Known as Feria and every year it becomes a success. You will surely enjoy your life as Iheian if you become a part of it.
