Honest Review of GKCIET

Overall Rating
Ghani Khan Choudhury Institute of Engineering and Technology is an engineering college which offers B.Tech and diploma courses on various fields. It is situated at Narayanpur, Malda. It is roughly 10 km away from the Malda town railway station and the method of transportation is available through local autos. The transportation services are very poor, most of the auto rickshaws don't want to come to the gate of the college, they merely drop you at Narayanpur more. The college is a CFTI under MoE government of India. But it is very far from other CFTIs in case of comparison.
 

Academics Rating
It offers B.Tech and diploma program to students. For B.Tech, available branches are food technology, electrical and mechanical. For diploma it offers Electrical, Mechanical, Civil and Computer Science. From the upcoming academic year, it has been said that B.Tech on Computer Science and Civil engineering will be available. The students can apply through WBJEE or JEE mains. Although it is advised that one should avoid this college because of lack of infrastructure, campus and non-friendly teaching staff.
 

Faculty Rating
The faculties are well educated. Most of them are M.Tech and Ph.D holders from IITS and NITs. But educational background is not all. In this college, the teachers are not very engaged and helpful to the students. They always tend to make the life of students hectic. New guidelines for assignments are given every now and then so you have to make many changes in your assignment in spite of completing it before. Important core subjects are taught by teachers who have no prior experience in teaching that particular subjects, so you are kind of on our own in case of concept building.
 

Placement Rating
The placement scenario is very poor for a CFTI to be honest. Some companies like Pie and Infocom come and provides low packages to students. There is a lack of placement for core students like Electrical and Mechanical. And the TPO (Training and Placement) cell is very inactive. If you come to this college and think that you will get a good package, then you are doomed.
 

Hostel Rating
The hostel on the other hand is pretty good in this college. The rooms are very beautiful, and the washrooms are cleaned regularly to maintain hygiene. There is 24x7 running water and water heaters are added recently for bathing purposes in winter. The food is mediocre and doesn't give the value of money. Although security guards are provided at every entrance the hostel doesn't have any boundary wall which is a matter of concern.
 

Infrastructure Rating
There are four academic blocks and one administrative block. The academic blocks have full CCTV coverage and also guarded by security personnel. Each academic block has its own auditorium and laboratories for various fields. There are the facilities of library available in the campus, but the book storage is not very good. There is also a canteen which serves cold drinks, lunch, and evening snacks every day except Sunday, but the price is a little on the higher side.
 

Campus Rating
The campus life is very close to boring. There are not much engagement activities available. There is certain robotics club, photography club available but those needs to be remodeled to be more appealing to students to join. The fest is called ' Kristitarang ' which happens during February, March for two years now. Various artists perform in this and also many events for students are available in the fest, but it needs improvement. There are also annual sports happening comprising of cricket, football, volleyball, badminton and many other activities.

    The Ghani Khan Choudhary Institute of Engineering and Technology is a CFTI under MoE Govt of India. It is one of the great technical institutes in West Bengal as well as in India. The college is adjacent to the Malda Town with well connected transportation services. It offers courses like B.Tech and Diploma.     This college is not the best option for your career. If you have scored average marks which can let you go for this college, please opt for other government colleges or any private colleges. The college is below average even though it is a CFTI. The faculty members are not that helpful or supportive.... Read Full Review

    I got a seat in this college through CSAB counselling. I chose this college because the branch that I was interested in (Food technology) was provided in here and moreover, it was not very far from my State so it was convenient for me. I was an applicant of 2020 batch and unfortunately two years of my college was done online.
