My Experiences at IIT Roorkee

Overall Rating
Return of investment in IITs is better than at any other college. If your family income is more than Rs. 5 Lakh then your fee will be Rs. 11 – 12 Lakh overall. If your family income is less than Rs. 1 Lakh then your fee will only be Rs. 4 Lakh because you will get full concession on the tuition fee which is Rs. 8 Lakh. If your family income lies between Rs. 1 – 5 Lakh then your overall fee will only be Rs. 7 Lakh.
 

Academics Rating
This year IIT Roorkee changed its academic curriculum towards more industrial and has also added courses like AI and DSAI in non circuital branches. Faculties are also highly qualified. Some are quite strict and do not let students give exams until they fulfill the 75% criteria whereas, some are quite lenient. IITs have mostly theoretical and research oriented curriculum.
 

Faculty Rating
IITs Roorkee have 800 professors and over 9,000 students which means that the student to faculty ratio is approximately 11:1 and it is considered very good. They have completed their PhD from top abroad universities or other IITs and have at least 10 – 15 years of experience. Some teachers are new but they hold good knowledge of teaching.
 

Placement Rating
IIT Roorkee has the best placements. The maximum package offered was 1.75 CPA and the minimum package offered was 11 LPA. In the Chemical Engineering branch the highest package offered was 47 LPA and the minimum package offered was 15 LPA. The overall average package offered at the institute was 19 LPA.
 

Hostel Rating
The institute has 23 hostels among which 4 belong to girls, 1 is for the international students, 5 for the married couples, 1 is co-educational, and the rest belong to the boys. Currently 3 hostels are under construction.
 

Infrastructure Rating
The institute has well maintained infrastructure. There are 2 AC lecture halls among which one is the old one and one has been newly made. Hostel buildings also have good infrastructure but some buildings are a bit old as they were constructed earlier. Every year the Indian Government spends so much money for the renovation of IITs so by that you can easily guess that how great the infrastructure will be.
 

Campus Rating
All 4 years of the campus life are very enjoyable. The environment is a bit competitive here as the students that come here compete with approximately 10 Lakh students. All of us are mostly awake till late hours in the night so some students enjoy and some focus on studying and developing new skills.

    The campus is excellent in terms of infrastructure, academics, environment and overall facilities. It is the oldest engineering institute in Asia with a legacy of more than 175 years. The alumni base is very huge and the connection this institute has with the industry experts is unmatchable. Overall the institute is a good blend of all extracurricular activities and academics.     The institute fulfills every requirement of students and living up to the name of an IIT with ranking among top 7 Engineering Institutes of India. I love everything here, from academics to library to Cultural fests. The institute is the best.     I particularly accepted this college in my first round of JOSAA counselling. The reasons for choosing an IIT are mainly its infrastructure and placement opportunities. Here there are also internship opportunities which many students can grab in their 3rd and 4th year which helps in placements. Overall the campus is wonderful and worth it.... Read Full Review
