Surendranath College for Women is a government Institution, which is recognized by the UGC. The college, which is affiliated to the University of Calcutta, NAAC has been accredited with a B++ grade. All the admission process is managed online and the selection procedure is mainly based on previous school qualifying merit list and the percentage scored in the main subjects. College authority has the career counseling department on the campus for incoming students. There were more than 15-16 courses including honours. If you want to specialize in a specific subject you can.

College authorities are also working hard to develop the Masters courses in respected subjects in the upcoming year for higher education. Which will help the pursuing students, who want to continue their study. Departments are well maintained and sophisticated, clean. The examinations are held twice a year in a semester wise. Eligible candidates can take admission in this college. Colleges always try to provide a standard quality of education to their students. University didn't pressure anyone. They announce the examination date 1 month earlier so they can get enough time for preparation. Colleges provide ID cards which will help to recognise students. Office Stuffs are well mannered and helpful, they help to complete all the official works and are cooperative.

I completed my graduation from this college in the year 2019. I am a student of Journalism and mass communication. Currently I am pursuing a Masters from Calcutta University. For admission purposes a candidate should have passed 10+2 level in the year between 2015 to 2020 are highly eligible, they can apply. No entrance examination is needed for pursuing graduation. This college has the best journalism department among others that's the reason behind my joining. Course subjects are beyond expectations. Teachers are very much focused on practical classes, giving regular tasks & assignments. They inspire us a lot. They treat every student very kindly. Meanwhile, scarcity in attendance at practical or normal classes will not be tolerated.

Have all the necessary equipment like high definition cameras, speakers, desktops, laptops, anchoring equipment, projectors etc. Students participate in various debates & seminars in other colleges which are recommended by the teachers and get certificates which are absolutely worthy. This college is mainly focused on students growth and well being. They are highly concerned about the students. The courses are Value-for-money it's approximately 12 thousand per year. Parents and guardians are called by the teachers and office staff whenever necessary. Irregular students will not be able to appear for her/his university examination. Have to attend college classes on a regular basis. Our college also provides scholarships to help their students who don't have enough money to continue their studies. After Graduation students can get their dream job by concentrating on their career or they can continue with their studies as well.

In our college there were more than 10-12 Professors in the journalism department. Their helpful nature helps students to interact properly. Teachers, professors, & guest lecturers are well qualified and well experienced more than 8-9 years. Some of them are PhD holders and UGC-NET certified. They are very dedicated Professionals. Professors and teachers of other respective departments are also very supportive and kind. Sir, Dr. Uma Shankar Pandey is a Professor and Head of the Journalism and mass communication department. He is an IAMCR Ambassador in India. He is our supporting system and backbone of the department. I learn a lot from him. His contribution towards students is incredible.

Teachers are very attentive and particular in class and also follow the extracurricular activities regularly. Every year our Journalism department publishes a tabloid named SOJOURN, where teachers & students both can participate and get appreciated. Overall, Classes are very creative. Professors of different universities came to visit our college and interact with students regularly. Our Principal Madam is also very supportive. Updated syllabus is introduced, but few old Candidates are still pursuing the old syllabus. Our journalism department's teachers manage the educational tour/trip for 8-9 days every year for final year students to complete their documentary project.

Students didn't get any placement opportunities yet. But our College is working really hard on this matter. And our faculty will give the best idea and advice which will be beneficial for students. Sometimes our college provides internships to deserving students which will help them to find jobs.

Our college campus does not have a hostel facility yet. Because college didn't have the enough area for developing these facilities.

College management was very nice. Infrastructure is quite good & under progress, facilities are average. But our college authority has provided more than sufficient equipment for students. Some improvement is needed as well. College has many projectors for students, there are more than 15 desktops in the lab & many more to come. Separate labs for individual subjects, all the departments have proper equipment. Wi-fi connection is in every computer room.

In the library there is more than 10,000 books collection, including story books, higher studies books all are available, daily newspaper is also available here, laboratory, living rooms also there in college. Aside from this College has an average canteen with good quality of food both veg and non-veg items are available here. Washrooms are well maintained and hygiene, 1 big auditorium named Gitanjali which is used for seminars, functions & cultural programs, also maintains a physical activity program yearly, has the gyming area, small playground etc. are available. Also has emergency medical facilities.

Campus life is memorable and good. Colleges provide learning programs for students where they get human growth, and learn how to cooperate with the team & others. College collaborates with the Press Club, where we can interact with great personalities. Our supportive staff is very concerned about the student's well being. Many extracurricular activities like yoga, annual function, sports day, yearly picnic are organized by faculty. College faculty members also organize quiz-competition, various learning workshops, micro teaching by the senior students, project work, field survey to assess the students performance and development. I used to participate in so many competitions representing our college and departments.

The sports faculty members are amazing. They bring new games every year. Every year colleges celebrate and congratulate the freshers and give farewell to their pass out students. Once in a year college organises social events for all the students, where they invite popular celebrities like- Singer Arijit Singh, Neha Kakkar, Palak Muchhal, Milkha Singh, Shreyal Ghoshal etc. The college is an anti ragging zone. Everyone can freely sit in a corridor. Women are safe here as the outsiders are highly restricted. This is the reason colleges have a very nice atmosphere. Senior students and unions are very helpful. This college is located near one of the busiest railway stations in the country, Sealdha! which is beneficial for those students who are staying far from college. Locals are helpful as well. I have shared almost everything which I have personally experienced in my 3 yrs graduation days.
