Chandigarh University BA+LLB Review By Kritika Verma

Chandigarh University got established in 2012 and is in Gharuan/ Kharar and not in Chandigarh as a lot of people tend to get confused about the university location. It is NAAC approved. It is a global university, which further means, we have students from around the globe. Every course is available, name it, you will find it at our university. In such a short span of time, the university is in the top 10 private universities, and let us be a little honest, the two departments, engineering and MBA department hold the credit for all the bling.

It is also linked with foreign universities from Australia, Canada, United States, Poland, and one can get to know the procedure through the international department or on their website that is Chandigarh University. When we search for a university that has excelled in academics, we also look for a friendly management/environment. The management is very harsh and rude once you a part of the university. 70 percent of the management is not cooperative. The management staff is rude and would blame you for their own mistakes. I repeat, not your mistakes, but their own mistakes.

As being in my fourth year of law (BA- LLB), I'd say most of the faculty knows of the course, but few of them lack the teaching experience. Although, the teachers will guide you on any topic related to law. People generally have this question about how to get into UILS at Chandigarh University? Are there any specific exams to give? How much do we need to score in our board exams? What is the minimum %age required to get into UILS? Well, there are no such extraordinary criteria to get a seat in UILS. The minimum %age which one requires is 50%.

They also conduct an exam known as CUCET (Chandigarh University common entrance test) for those who need a scholarship in a particular course and, if you don't want to give the entrance exam, you need to pay a certain amount to book your seats on the desired course, the amount differs from batch to batch and course to course. Scholarships are also based on your 12th board results. If you score well in both, your 12th boards and CUCET, there is a finer chance of you getting a high scholarship. There is a trick which almost every university plays when it comes to admissions. Like any other university, even our university tends to lie about the slots too. But you can get it changed after your first semester if you want to. As it is a course in which theoretical and practical knowledge go hand in hand, it depends on the one how much is passionate about the course and is willing to put efforts accordingly.

Just like most of the universities, our university follows the same faculty method. The faculty is supposed to teach multiple subjects having assistant professors and senior professors. Whereas, when we talk about students doing their masters or post-graduation, they have proper subject teachers having a master's degree in a particular subject.

Most of the faculty have a master's degree and are licensed advocated and are freelancing. We also get guest lectures. Few professors also have a Bachelor's degree as their highest qualification and teach first-year students. To sum up, it is a 50- 50 situation where it depends on the student's hard work and understanding.

When we talk about placements, there are companies like Infosys, Microsoft, Capgemini, Deloitte, Google, and more such top-notch companies in the chart. The highest package so far provided in 2019 was in the engineering batch of Rs. 35 lakh per annum and Rs. 14 lakh per annum in the MBA batch. 60% of the students get placed in these top-notch companies, whereas the 40% get placed in either averagely good MNCs' or they prefer to work independently.

The fun fact is placements occur after every 2 months, which means none of the students are left behind and every student gets a fair chance to sit for the placements. Although they don’t only train you for the questioner round, they also train you on how to lose your cool and be confident while they rag you off during the placements, which I think is pretty amazing.

Many colleges suggest living in a hostel than living off-campus as a paying guest. Living in a hostel is a different experience itself. A student learns survival, literal survival. Questions such as, how many hostels are there? Are the hostels separated or combined? How many How is the environment of the hostel? What is the food quality? How safe are the hostels for the students? Such questions tend to pop up in one's mind. When we talk about hostels, there are six in total. The five are inbuilt hostels are further divided into three girls hostel named Sukhan A, Sukhna B, and Tagore Hostel. And two boys hostel named Tower 1 and Tower 2. Every hostel has a senior warden and 2 chief wardens. There is a booklet system in which you have it signed by your respective wardens if you want to go for a day out, whereas, for a night out, permissions are taken from your guardians or parents. Such rules are only for girls.

There is also a time curfew that every hostel in the nation has. Therefore, it shows how cautious they are with one's daughter's security. The off-campus hostel is a thorough boys hostel. More hostels are being built due to the whole covid 19 precautions. When we talk about food and hygiene, no matter where ever you go, there will always be hygiene and food issues. Like in any hostel, they provide watery daal, uncooked veggies, and hard roties/chappatis. But it does differ from hostel to hostel. For example, I lived in Sukhna Hostel, the food was not good in any way, whereas Tagore hostel's food was far better than ours. So it definitely depends on the cooking staff. When it comes to hygiene and cleaning, they do take care of that. To sum up, hostels are fun, but for a year or two and I wouldn't suggest you to live in a hostel for more than a year or two.

Chandigarh University is known mostly for its great infrastructure. The total land which it occupies is 160 acres approx. The campus has been further divided into the North and the South campus. Every building is known by block number and the department's name below it. There are 16 blocks/ departments in total, further divided into 9 on the north campus and 7 on the south campus. Every department consists of one auditorium, 2 libraries, and 4 classes on each floor, having 7 floors in total. There is a whole different section for workshops. The major question high school graduates have is about food joints.

As the campus is pretty huge itself, there are almost 30 food joints on the north campus itself. Few dhabas are on the South campus. The most crowded cafeteria is the Food-Republic shortened to FR having almost 15 food joints in it. There are also Stationery shops near every block so that in case if you forget to make the assignments and there is a due date to it, you can go and buy your stuff and submit them on the same day and you won't lose your assessment marks, sort of savior, right? While keeping all the fun and games aside, they do care about their student's health as well. Certain health programs take place on the campus to which students are guided accordingly.

Apart from being famous for its infrastructure and placements, Chandigarh University is all known for its fests such as Aaagaz, DJ night, and inter-department cultural fests, especially international cultural fests. Universities from across the world take part in this fest. If we deduct the 75% mandatory audience issue and the management, it would be the best university line could be part of. There are a few basic clubs, which every university, like literary clubs, dance clubs, etc.

To conclude, there is a slogan "Discover, Learn, Empowerment" which the university has on its banner. And I would say, you won't only learn things related to your course, but will also learn survival, you'll discover how the system really works, you'll fight for your rights as you make memories every semester and every year.
