RVS College of Engineering and Technology B.Tech Review By Yashwant Pradhan

Now it's been 1.5 years at RVSCET and the journey has been a rollercoaster ride for me. When I was looking for colleges, I went through many colleges like ITER, CV Raman Global University, Arka Jain University, etc. But I chose RVSCET because this college had a good reputation among all other private colleges of Jharkhand. Also, Jamshedpur is close to my hometown. So this was the perfect choice for me. Here the class timings are from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. We get a 1 hour lunch break from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. If you compare the fee structure of RVSCET with other engineering colleges then I would say that it is much more affordable than those colleges. So I think if you are someone who wants to stay in Jharkhand to pursue your higher education then I would definitely say RVS College of Engineering and Technology would be the best choice for you.

RVSCET provides 7 UG and 2 PG courses. The UG courses include B Tech (5 branches), BBA, and BCA. The PG courses include M Tech (2 branches). The 5 B Tech branches are CSE (Computer Science Engineering), ECE (Electronics and Communication Engineering), EEE (Electrical and Electronic Engineering), ME (Mechanical Engineering), and CE (Civil Engineering). From this year, our college has started 3 Diploma courses in EE, CE, and ME. Since I am a UG student, I don't have much idea about the PG courses. Our college has a very strict attendance policy. 75% attendance is compulsory for every student and if someone fails to meet the criteria, he/she has to pay a hefty fine or is debarred from writing the exams. Our college encourages students to take up NPTEL courses. When I was in the 1st year, we were encouraged to take the NPTEL C Programming course and those who cleared the exam were rewarded with certificate of appreciation. Our college made the payment for their next NPTEL course, which was a very good initiative. In our college, seminars are conducted at a regular basis where prominent people from the tech industry come and guide the students for their betterment. There is also a scholarship called RVS Megha Scholarship which is offered to students who perform well in the University Exams.

The faculty members at RVSCET are well qualified in their particular fields. Although, every professor here is not a PhD holder but most of the time it does not matter because of the knowledge which every facility has of their subjects. Most of the professors teach in English and Hindi Language (Hinglish). So, if you are a Non- Hindi speaker, then you may find a little difficulty in adjusting here but eventually you will get used to it. Most of the faculties have done their Masters from reputed institutions and have their research papers published. Since the batch size is not very big, so there is a personal bonding between the faculty and the students. All our faculties know us by our names which is not the case in most of the Engineering colleges. You can take the help of faculty any time and they will surely resolve your doubt or any problem.

The placement scenario at RVSCET is quite good. We have a Training and Placement department (TnP) which constantly works hard to get the best companies visit for campus placement drives. After the covid-19 scenario, the placements have seen a downfall but definitely they will get better in the near future. Recently for the batch of 2023, some top companies which visited the campus include TCS, Tata Motors, Tata Technologies, Jamuna Automobiles, Mphasis, iB Arts Private Limited, Rosa Technologies, etc. The highest package offered was 6 LPA which was offered by Rosa Technologies. For the CSE branch, the average package was 3.5 LPA and almost all the students were placed at some good companies. So overall for a college which is in Jharkhand and that too in a tier-2 city, the placements are above average.

RVSCET has 3 boys’ hostels and 2 girls’ hostels. The boys’ hostels are named as BH-1, BH-2, and BH-3 and the girls’ hostels are named as GH-1 and GH-2. All the hostels are well equipped with all modern facilities such as Wi-Fi Connectivity, 24*7 CCTV Surveillance, and 24*7 Electricity. All the hostels have 2 seater rooms. The first year students reside in BH-3, 2nd and 3rd year students in BH-2, and the 4th year students in BH-1. BH-2 and BH-3 have common washrooms whereas BH-1 has attached washrooms. Birthday celebrations are allowed in Boys’ Hostel but not in Girls’ Hostel. The in and out timing for boys’ hostel is from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm and for girls’ hostel is from 6:00 am to 5:00 pm. There are 2 caterers which take care of the mess food. The price of mess is Rs. 3,000 per month which has to be paid separately each month it is not included in the hostel fee. Outing is given to hostellers after every 14 days and they are taken to the nearest local market (Sakchi Market), in which you will get most of your day to day products. Most of the time, the timings of outing for boys and girls are different. But under unavoidable circumstances, they are given outing at the same time. The hostels are cleaned at a regular basis and the rooms are also checked for any illegal substances. We have 1 warden for boys’ and 1 for girls’ hostel who takes care of all the hostellers. If any hosteller wants to go home, then he /she have to take permission from their respective warden.

RVSCET is spread in a lush green area of 35 acres. So the campus is quite big. There are 4 main buildings which are named B0, B1, B2, and B3. In the first building, classes of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year students are conducted. In the second building commonly known as the main building have all the labs in it. Every lab is equipped with modern machines and equipments. The third building is known as Civil Building which is for the Department of Civil Engineering. In the civil building, we have Auditorium, Seminar halls, and ED Lab. All the workshops and seminars are conducted in the auditorium and seminar halls.

The campus life is RVSCET is very exciting. Every day is different and more exciting from the other. Here the seniors are treated in a very respectful manner by all juniors. All the juniors have to call their seniors as Sir / Ma'am when talking to them. This rule makes us ready for the corporate world. In the campus we have a general store where you will find almost every item which you may need in your day to day life. Also, there is a canteen named HungOut where you can go and chill out with your friends when you get bored of the mess food. The charges of the canteen are nominal. Since, the college is situated in a village named Idalbera, it is far from the rush of the city. But there is major disadvantage because of this. The main highway is 3 km away from the campus. So you have to walk 3 km straight if you want any public transport. Also, the cab drivers charges very high rates if you reserve them. After the classes are over, most of the students come out of their rooms to play several sports such as Basketball, Football, Badminton, Cricket, etc.
