My experience at the IIT BHU after the online life came to an end has become more wonderful. A lush green campus along with lots of other things has made my college experience worthy. I never had a lot of academic pressure throughout college life which also helped me land a good internship this year. Also the open culture at the IIT BHU helped me in choosing a field of my interest i.e. Data Science and landing an internship in it.

From 9th class itself, my brothers were the reason I was motivated to join IIT. I went to Kota in my 11th class for the same. In the counseling procedure initially I was given B.Tech in Electrical Engineering at the NIT Allahabad but in the 2nd last round I was given B.Tech in Ceramic Engineering at the IIT BHU. Finally in the last round my seat was frozen. As there was covid so I went through online counseling and admission procedure. Here in Ceramic engineering for the first two semesters, we have common courses of basic Physics, Maths, Chemistry, Engineering Drawing, etc. but from the third semester we have branch specific courses. In Ceramic engineering you earn around 45-55 credits per semester. Each course is of around 10-13 credits which translates to 4-5 courses per semester. Each course has a 3 hour lecture during a week spread across 1 hour lecture during three days. The classes are held from Monday to Friday. Also a few courses have a lab component in them as well.

At present there are 11 faculty members in the Ceramic Engineering department. There is a good faculty: student ratio as the numbers of students in the ceramic engineering branch are less. The faculty members here are very good. Not just the faculties of our department but even our non-departmental faculties are also very good in teaching. They are highly qualified and have excellent research records in their respective fields. The faculties here use presentation as the main teaching method and send the study material as and when required.

As someone would expect from an IIT, the placements are exceptional. The IIT BHU also gets an advantage of its strong alumni base during the placements. There is a dedicated Placement cell which manages the placements and internships at the college. Several Multinational companies visit our campus including Microsoft, Google, JPMC, Apple, etc. Almost every student who applies for placements gets placed. The highest package this year (Rs. 1.2 crore per annum) was a little low as compared to last few years due to economic recession. An average package here is around Rs. 12 LPA.

The institute provides hostel facilities to all the students who take admission. The first year and second year B. Tech boys are accommodated in triple sharing rooms and rest all are accommodated in double sharing rooms. The triple sharing hostels are well furnished and in fact the newer hostels like the Dhanrajgiri-II and the new girl’s hostel are very well equipped. The old hostels are not spacious and lack good amenities. We are provided with tables, chairs, wooden beds and almirahs. Each hostel has its own mess. There is a Sattvik mess where pure vegetarian food is served. There are three grounds like the Rajputana Ground, the Gymkhana ground, and the ADV Ground along with a Student's Activity Centre.

You'll find a lot of old historical buildings at the IIT BHU. Especially the departments of Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering are quite old. The newer departments have relatively smaller buildings. There is a decent library and sufficient books. Even if you need books you can request them. Generally they provide you with the requested book if it’s not available. There's a recently constructed Student's Activity Centre which has a gym, badminton court, and many other sporting places. There are three lecture theatre complexes. Along with them there are classrooms in each department to accommodate the students. All in all, the campus itself is a vibe.

The campus life is fantastic at the IIT-BHU. Here, as I mentioned, academics are not that pressurizing and you can have a taste of everything around you, especially the extra-curricular activities. Each year there are annual fests and the most prominent ones being Spardha (Sports Fest), Technex (Techno-Management Fest), and Kashiyatra (Cultural Fest). Almost all the common sports are available here like Cricket, Football, Hockey, Badminton, Volleyball, Basketball, Lawn Tennis, Table Tennis, Squash, Kabaddi, and many more. Then you can also be part of councils to keep yourself engaged in productive activities.
