Vidyasagar College for Women is a Government aided college, affiliate with University of Calcutta. It was established in 1960 but the college started its journey in 1931 when an individual women section of Vidyasagar College was started to educate the women of our society. The college is re-accredited at the “B++ (with CGPA- 2.79) level” by NAAC (cycle- 2) 2017. It is a morning college, running between 7 am.to 12 pm.

it was founded by the great social activist of 19th century, Iswarchandra Vidyasagar. It was a part of India’s women history as the college plays an important role to educate women of subservient India. The admission process is online, from the application to submit the fees everything is fully online. With the help of the college staffs and students the management process is unique and ideal.

This College provides mainly two full time courses. One is the ‘Bachelor of Arts’ and another one is ‘Bachelor of Science’. There is usually no entrance examination. Students are being selected by the marks which they have secured in class 12th board examinations. You must have at least 70 % number in your subject, which you have decided to choose for Honours and also in the aggregate. I joined the B.A Honours course in English because I have a strong passion for English language and literature. This core course is very helpful and authentic as I have expected. Every course of this college is indirectly job oriented. Because B.A or B.S.C Honours courses make a person eligible for any kind of Government and private jobs.

After completing the course you can go for further research in our country and also abroad. Beside this an English Honours can easily step into the field of Journalism and Mass Communication. Public Relation is also a new field where the knowledge of English language is required. Moreover there is a tremendous opportunity in content writing, blogging and Digital Marketing. Next there is a huge scope for aspirants of Indian civil services. Consequently English language can help you to establish yourself in any field of our life and I can assure you that the knowledge of literature will definitely change your prospect of life.

In our College the total number of faculties are 45, among them 28 faculties have PhD degree. Everyone is very experience and graceful, they have ten years of experience in teaching in average. In my department there are total four faculties. They are very helpful, honest and caring. They help us to visualize the concept and importance of literature. Even they help us to find the real essence of English language. Not only our teachers inspire us to come out of our shell but also they guide us as a friend and savior. In the pandemic situation they encourage us to continue with our studies taking online classes it proves their strong intention to help students grow up.

In 2014, with the suggestion of NAAC PEER Team the placement cell of the college formed individually. Before that it was working with the College’s career counseling cell. The placement cell starts their work with the objective of making the students aware about the qualities needed for any kind of job. They provided the environment where the students can realize the essential potentials to work in an industry. At first a financial private consultancy firm, “Value you” approached the College and after that every year there is one or more seminars, workshops, interviews and written tests are taking place.

The top industrial companies like Tata Consultancy Service, Technoscope, Noboundtech, an IT company are organizing many seminars and interviews every year for the students. The highest package had been provided by the TCS of average Rs. 10,000 per month. Around 20% students received the placement from our college and mostly in Tata Consultancy Service.

The College hostel is situated in the original home of Pandit Iswarchandra Vidyasagar. There he took his last breath so it has a historical corner also. It is a three storied building with 42 seats available. It is located in 5 minute walking distance from the College. There students are provided with a standard size bed, bed sheet, a study table and a cupboards with separate washrooms. To an extend all the rooms are marbleized and well furnished.

There is also a dining hall and also a T.V room. The water supply is regular and refined and the quality of the food is very well. Veg and nonveg both types of foods are available. The monthly fee of the hostel is Rs. 5000. Twenty four hours CCTV surveillance and security guards are also available and the hostel warden is always there for maintenance. All these facilities get its support from RUSA fund.

The College campus has main two buildings and in both building there are minimum 30 classrooms including office and staff rooms. The new building is fully air conditioned and well decorated. There is also a huge auditorium and there are two ICT rooms where students can easily attend a smart class and it actually helps them to concentrate more deeply. Moreover there are two libraries along with many subject books, research papers and journals and there are also separate laboratories for each subject with modern appliances. The College has two canteens which delivers quality food. Beside this there is a computer room where anybody can practice regularly. The College premise has a beautiful ground with a stage in front of it and there are also two hall rooms and two common rooms for students. Overall the campus is very good.

I am enjoying the campus life in this College very much. This College is not only leading me to my goals but also it gives me many caring friends and teachers. The College union organized a grand ceremony for the fresher every year. Beside this the events like ‘Independence day’, ‘Teachers day’, ‘Vidyasagar’s birth anniversary’ ‘Saraswati Puja’ and many cultural events are also celebrated with grandeur every year. These celebrations have its own sweetness and integrity. With the mainstream studies of Arts, Science, Journalism and Film studies there are many curricular activities like NSS, NCC, ‘ Spoken English course’, ‘ Computer training center’, ‘ Beautician course’ and ‘ Yoga center’. The College sports are also a very popular event and every year there is an educational excursion to various places throughout the state.
