B.Tech CSE's Fee Structure at Dr. Sudhir Chandra Sur Institute

I am currently pursuing B.Tech in CSE in SURTECH Kolkata, which is affiliated by MAKAUT. From 2025-26 batches, it will be an autonomous Institute. It is under JIS Foundation. You also get facility in sports section beside your academics. It's purely a ragging free campus. My favorite thing about this Institute is "The Creativity", in spite of having many obstacles, our faculty members always try to provide us the best thing they know. They provide us all the facilities students require. Also, other than study, there are many options to gain knowledge from and to show your creative skills. So, if anyone is interested then go ahead.

Computer Science Engineering and ECE are two subjects, which are very good in our Institute. Eligibility criteria is that you have to pass the 12th board examination with decent marks and a rank in WBJEE, or JEE Main. Direct admission is also available here. Admission process is very simple. Come to the office, get your documents verified, pay the fee for confirmation, and then you will be admitted. As this Institute is under MAKAUT, there are 8 semesters in 4 years. There are some internals as well, such as Continuous Assessments (CAs) and Practical Continuous Assessments (PCAs), apart from the semester end exams. You have an app named Companion, which is only provided to JIS students, where you can see everyday attendance, access any handbooks, and lectures from other teachers of other Institutes under JIS Group as well.

Fee for my course is Rs. 5,46,800. This fee includes all fees like tuition fee, admission fee, registration fee, etc. You have to pay Rs. 1,200 for MAKAUT. There is no discount given on the fee. SVMCM scholarship and private scholarship like ‘Sitaram Jindal Scholarship’ are available.

All Faculty members are good here. In first year, our HOD is from Chemistry. They all have student friendly behavior. If you have any problem any time from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, you can go to them and they will solve your problems instantly. Even, if you can't understand any topic in class, you can go in free time and consult the teachers for assistance. They will be glad to help you. Teacher-student ratio is good. My bonding with the faculty is awesome. Some teachers use blackboards while some use combination of both blackboards and PPTs.

Placement is on an average good in SURTECH Kolkata. In recent year 87% students got placements. So, if you perform academically well, you’ll get good placement. Again, I would say all the departments in this Institute are very good especially CSE, ECE, and Automobile.

I am a day scholar so, I don't know much about hostel life. But, from friends I have heard that hostel life is fun. Mess food is good and hygienic. Boys’ and girls’ hostels are separate. Girls’ hostel is inside the Institute campus.

Campus size is Huge. Campus's academic blocks are big and well structured. The Institute is near the famous Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Airport, Kolkata. So, Campus is easy to reach for outstation students. You also have the sports facilities like Football, Cricket, Tennis, Badminton, Carom, Chess, etc. Library is big and well stocked; whenever you want you can come and issue books. Seminar hall is big in size, clean, and well equipped with ACs and chairs. Security is very good. Lab facilities are well equipped to compliment the academic theory.

Overall, Campus life at SURTECH Kolkata is very good. I am happy that in spite of having average result in 12th boards and entrance exams, I got admission in such a good Institute. There are many events conducted. Also, once a year tech fest, cultural fest, and fresher’s party is organized. In these every student participate and earn some cash prizes as well. There are many clubs like Math Club, Coding Club, Sports Club, etc.
