Admission Process of Loyola College's B.Com Program

The Loyola College, Chennai is a good college. It has a good reputation among the people. It tops in the ranking system of colleges of Tamil Nadu. It has many famous and great alumni. The Overall experience here cannot be expressed in words because college’s atmosphere, morning fresh air, friendly professors, and always helpful friends are not easy to describe. The reason to choose this college was its reputation.

The course I’ve chosen is Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) because I have passion for Accountancy, Commerce, Stock Marketing, and Consumer Marketing. So, for getting more knowledge in these fields, I chose this course. The eligibility criterion is 90% or above in their 12th board exam. If someone scored below 90% in their 12th board exams, then they would get afternoon shift. Admission process is very simple. The application for admission is fully online. The online application portal will be opened 2 days prior the result of the 12th board exam. The candidates need to fill up the application form with some documents like 10th, 11th, and 12th mark sheet, Aadhar Card, community certificate, and birth certificate. There are 2 semester in one academic year. 2 internal or model exams for 50 marks and one end semester exam are conducted in each semester. The way academic exams are conducted has helped me to get prepared before hand and has helped to gain more practical knowledge in that relevant field.

The semester wise fee structure for my course is Rs. 13,000 for 1st semester, Rs. 9,000 for 2nd semester, Rs. 10,000 for 3rd semester, Rs. 10,000 for 4th semester, Rs. 10,500 for 5th semester, and Rs. 9,500 for 6th semester. For post graduation, the fee structure may be higher than undergraduate course. Some additional fees include a book fee for 1st and 2nd years of Rs. 150, exam fee of Rs. 1,200, and lab fee. The college offers scholarship facilities for students of amount ranging from Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 7,000. There is a fee concession for students who struggle to pay their fee. Even some professors help the students financially with their own salary, or may raise funds.

The teaching method of professors is absolutely excellent and appreciable. The way they keep students engaged in their classes is just great. They are always approachable. The method of teaching is mixed use of PPTs, writing on the blackboard, and sometimes engaging students in group discussion. They always encourage students to give their opinions on the topic being taught by the professors. The way they solve the problems of the students like clearing doubts, providing some important questions, and evaluation of assignments is just excellent. The teacher student ratio at my college may be 1:9. The professors are always approachable and maintain a friendly relationship with the students. They help every student who is in need.

The Placement cell at my college offers variety of opportunities to the students to get placed in many prestigious companies. It gives correct and accurate details regarding the role, job description, and compensation benefits for that role. Till now, more than 800 students from my college have been placed in many prestigious companies. The college placement cell offers special placement training to the students who face struggles in clearing the aptitude test at free of cost. The most renowned companies who visited the college are Deloitte, Accenture, Sutherland, RineX, ICICI Bank, Presidio, RR Donnelley, and many more. The highest package offered for the students was 9 LPA. The average package offered to students was 2.4 LPA to 3LPA from certain small companies. The overall experience of the placement cell is very great and excellent. The way they approach companies for placements is absolutely excellent.

Yes, the college offers residential facilities to the students. The total rooms provided by the hostel to students may be more than 500. Where in one room, 4 to 6 students are accommodated. Free Wi-Fi routers are also provided to the students at hostel. Girls’ and boys’ hostel are separate. Hostel fees for 1 year is Rs. 1,00,000 to Rs. 2,00,000 depending upon the type of room. The hostel gate is open till 8:00 PM and won't allow students coming post the time. I am not staying in the hostel. This information is gathered from my friends who stay in the hostel.

The Infrastructure of the Loyola College, Chennai is absolutely excellent. The Overall land of Loyola College is almost 100 acres. Campus has 10 blocks. It includes Main Building, Mathematics and Biology block, Engineering Block, Commerce Building, Media Studies Block, Chemistry Block, Administration Block, and some other non teaching blocks where some non academic staff works. The college has a big church inside. The classroom size is very large where almost 80 students can sit in the classroom. The classroom has big board with a projector for taking PPT. The college has a big library, where many books are available in English, Tamil, and Hindi language. The lab facility is also good. The college has 6 to 8 auditoriums each with a different occupancy level. It also has some seminar halls or conference halls for professor meetings. The canteen in the college is very large and has many stalls inside it with variety of food. The cost is also affordable for every student. The college conducts annual sports day every year with many sports competitions like 800 meter race, hurdle race, long jump, and shot put. The college has a small clinic inside it, which helps students who are ill. Till now there are no transportation facilities in our college. Only public transport which means government bus stop is available near our college. From upcoming academic year, they are planning to execute transportation facilities. The security in the college is very tight. In front of every block, there is a place for students to sit, learn, and chit chat. There is also a reading room. My favorite place in the college is football ground.

The overall campus life is very excellent. I strongly suggest others to choose the college without any second choice. The number of students studying in the college is almost 10,000. There are many clubs available for students to join their favorite activity and showcase their talents. I too joined the theatre club, where the members need to make a script and act according to their role chosen. So, the experience I gained through the club is really good and I enjoyed the most. There also many activities conducted by the individual departments like drawing, article publishing, singing, dancing, acting, and many more. The college conducts a mega cultural festival for students every year for 2 days. The Event has many guests from cinema fields like actors, directors, and music directors. So, finally the overall experience at the Loyola College, Chennai is very great.
