A Look at Infrastructure and Facilities of BITS Goa

I never thought that I would get to be a part of such esteemed institute. It was a like I am in my dream when I got here and saw the beautiful campus, amazing infrastructure, and such qualified faculty. It is a world full of opportunities. The amount of trust it has on its student is clearly visible through their ‘zero attendance’ policy, which means we do not have any attendance taken in our classes; we not be a hurdle for a student's valuable time. That is why, there are so many startups and patents that come from this institute. This is place that has an open gate for innovations and opportunities that everyone would and should try to grasp.

Here it offers a variety of disciplines like CSE, ECE, ENI, Mechanical, and Chemical. This goes for BE degree. It also provides with a dual degree i.e. a 5-year M.Sc course in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, and Economics. It has also added the Mathematics and Computing course for the 2024 batch student. The one chosen by me is Mechanical Engineering. For being admitted into any of BITS campuses, you need to write their exam BITSAT that is conducted every year. Then after getting your score, you need to go through counseling stage where you would provide with the preferences of courses and the branch you would like to choose. For example, in my case it was BE Mechanical Engineering in this branch. Later you would be screened in on the number of marks you got in BITSAT Exam. In all courses, and in all years, we have quizzes, mid-sem, and an end-sem examination on which it evaluate us. The subjects that are taught in our courses are the ones that are helpful in real life applications after you graduate. This institute really prepares you to get ready to face the outer competition after 4 years of institute.

BITS actually tends to lie on the more expensive side when it comes to their fee structure than other government institutes but the return on investment (ROI) is very high, or in simpler words the time in which you'd be able to earn that money back is a very small amount of time. I was inducted in 2022, for which the fee of my first semester is Rs. 3,31,025 including a tuition fee of Rs. 2,31,500. The fee structure changes every semester. If the fee amount bothers, you that much it also has a scheme of Merit-Cum-Need (MCN), which is provided on both merit and need. If you are in the top 10 students from your batch. You will get a scholarship and the students who have a family income less than 15 Lakh will get the need scholarship. Apart from this, different student aids are released and different scholarship exams are conducted by other organizations, which help in providing financial aid.

At BITS Goa, we are provided with an exceptional set of professors and other faculty members. Most of them would be involved in one or more research projects, which even the students, can be a part of. The faculty members are all PhD scholars with immense grip on the subject they teach. Most of the teaching is done on blackboard with the help of PPTs and the class is open for doubts, but if you have any other doubts, you can visit the professors in their respective faculty chambers where they clear the doubts. It is known for its student-faculty relations and the guidance they provide can never go in vain.

The institute is also known for its perfect placement statistics, which is overlooked by the Placement Students Division (PSD). It comprises of mainly students with staff as FIC to look over them. Almost everything in BITS is student-run which makes it so special. From top, IT companies like Google, Apple, Microsoft, Uber, etc. to top core companies like Texas instruments, Qualcomm, Schlumberger, L & T, and many more. Since BITS is considered, a teir-1 institute many companies tend to show interest in its students, which makes us directly, compete with IITs.

This institute has a system of compulsory hostel, meaning no day scholars are allowed, all the students studying should remain on campus. There are different boys’ and girls’ hostels. We have overall 3 messes that are A-mess ( for students on A-side), D mess (for students on D side), and C-mess ( for students on C-side). Students from any side can choose to select any mess at the start of its period to eat in that mess. Apart from that, we also have night canteens in these messes for the students who are night owls. Hygiene and quality of messes is maintained by continuous inspections. The hostels are cleaned every day to maintain hygiene. The fun part is, there is no hostel in time.

BITS Goa overall has a beautiful campus filled with greenery that can be viewed from most of the flights that pass through to get to the nearest airport, the Diabolism airport. It just takes 15 min at max to reach the airport from the campus. The infrastructure does not back down when compared to its other best features. The classrooms, The lecture halls are all modern-day- based and are great to sit and study in. We also have a separate building for library, which has two floors and is almost as big as the academic block. There are 5 different food spots from which students can eat, each one providing exceptional quality and customer service. The biggest and most popular is Food King (FK). We also have one Sports Activity Centre (SAC) where students indulge in playing Cricket, Football, Basketball, Tennis, Badminton, Chess, Caroms, and Snooker. We have two big grounds for Cricket and Football and also have places assigned for Kabaddi and Volleyball. We have one gym equipped with very well maintained gym equipment.

It is said and proven that the crowd at BITS is good after being filtered through the BITSAT exam. It has clubs and departments, which are student run, catering to a variety of students' interests. If you're interested in film making there is a Filmmaking Club, if you love to dance there is a Dance club, if you want to help in conducted different fests that happen on campus there are different departments that you can join and these departments and clubs not only help you find your interests it also helps you in creating bonds with other students. Coming to fests, we have a cultural fest (Waves), technical fest (Quark), and sports fest (Spree). Apart from these, we have two different inter-hostel tournaments, Zephyr and Slams, which keep the competitive spirit among the students high. All of this provides the best life in campus one can have in an engineering institute mixing co-curricular activities and academic activities, which shape you in the best shape for your future.
