Admission Process for B.A. in RBU Kolkata

This college is famous for performing arts. It contains music (Vocal Music and Rabindra sangeet), musicology, drama, instrumental music, painting, Sculpting, etc. The faculty and the teachers are very cooperative. Among the performing arts, music is my favorite. I'm doing BA in music here. Academics of music are truly wonderful. If someone has interest in any field of performing arts they should definitely consider getting admission here. There are many colleges that offer various courses in performing arts However, in term of proximity and accessibility this college is a good choice.

I have chosen Fine Arts (B.A. music in Rabindra Sangeet). I have always loved Rabindra Sangeet, that's why I chose this course. To get admission in this college for Fine Arts, students must first fill out a form indicating their preferred subject just like in other colleges. For those who wish to study music here they have to go through an admission test. This admission test begins with a practical exam. Only those who perform well in this exam are allowed to proceed to the next stage, which is written test. Only those who score well in all these tests get the opportunity to study their chosen subjects. The teachers prepare all students academically in a thorough manner.

Semester wise fee for me is Rs. 900 which includes examination fee as well. For especially able students, maybe there are some concessions. Students with family income under Rs. 1,40,000 get Vivekananda Scholarship of Rs. 12,000.

The teachers are very supportive and friendly. Each teacher has achieved exceptional expression in his or her respective subjects. As for the faculty members of the music department, they are all music experts and researchers. They use whiteboards, projectors, and group discussions as essential teaching methods. In addition to these seminars and workshops are conducted every month. The faculty members are very responsible. You just have to ask for help and they will take little time to solve that. The teacher student ratio in this university is 1:60. My bonding with the faculty members is very friendly. They are very cooperative and caring.

University has four huge buildings. They are for Fine Arts (Music, musical instruments, dance, drama), Visual Arts (painting, sculptures and other objects related to art), and Arts building for (Bengali, English, Hindi literatures, History, Political Science, Geography, etc.). Campus size is huge. There are two waterfalls and two big fields, where parties and sports events are organized. This campus is located near B.T. Road, Dumdum, kolkata-700028. There are benches and carpets for students. One huge library, 5 seminar halls, 5 canteens and an auditorium is located in the campus. Security is very strict. Medical and transport facilities are also available. Also, a beautiful pond is located behind the campus.

Overall Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata’s campus is beautiful. The campus is very calm. I was not part of any of the clubs but there are numerous clubs. One grand fest is organized every year as fresher’s party. Besides this Spring festival, rain fests, Aban Mela (organized by students of Arts department), Raksha Bandhan are celebrated every year. My experience was a memorable one and is very dear to me.
