M.Sc Economics at BITS Hyderabad: Course Structure and Entry Requirements

The overall experience is great. It has great infrastructure and gated community. The factors made me to use BITS is its strong network, academic flexibility, strong club culture, and many more. The one unique to BITS is its practice school program, where a student is exposed to industry of minimum of 8 months through internship. There are minors where you can study other courses other than major and get a certificate for it.

I have chosen M.Sc Economics and motive for enrolling in the course is my interest towards Economics and Finance. The entry requirement is 75% in PCM in class 12th, and valid score in BITSAT. Admission is mainly through entrance exam BITSAT. The evaluation components of the course is continuous you have 3 to 5 quizzes, two assignments, mid semester and end semester exam. Assignments in every course prepare students for real life challenges and there are project type courses to get hands on learning.

On average, per year fee would sum up to 6 Lakh. There is 12% hike in tuition fee. There is scholarship for both merit and merit cum need.

The faculty who teach are mostly having experience of at least 10 years have completed Masters or PhD. They have published papers and actively involved in research. We have projectors and blackboard for teaching. Students get access to the video recording of the lectures recorded by the teachers. Faculty have wide range of problem solving skills and there is dedicated lectures for solving questions. The teacher student ratio is around 1:10. My bonding with faculty members is great and they are easily approachable through in person, mail, phone, and chamber consultancy hours.

There is dedicated units for placement called placement unit. These unit is responsible for placements. They pitch in company for placements, take care the logistics around it, and frequently conducts events and training sessions in collaboration with company experts. The average is salary is around 18 LPA.

The campus is fully residential. Every hostel has capacity to accommodate around 800 students. There common rooms (TV and AC is available) and lawns where one can relax and play. Girls and boys have separate hostels. The mess food is decent and quality check there is dedicated student mess council. There no in time for hostels and rules are mostly related to discipline. My personal experience is good, I feel comfortable.

We have two academic blocks with well-equipped classrooms, library, labs, auditorium, conference hall, remote classrooms, etc. We have wide range of shops for essential items. it has night canteens. There other food outlets available which operates until 2 AM. There is student activity centre equipped with gym, indoor sports, and indoor activities. There is medical centre and CP where one can find medical assistance. There are more than 50 security guards for security purposes and there is CCTV throughout the campus. My favorite place is rocks in the campus from which the view of campus is beautiful. There is central workshop, computer labs, research labs with well-equipped tools and a resource which complements academics and lecture recordings is available for revision.

The overall campus life is great. The nature in the institute is so peaceful. The institute crowd is also very good, like there are around 6000 students overall across UG, PG, and PhD. There are many clubs and departments and I am part of many. The extracurricular activities are organized and you have at least one event every three weeks. Coming to fests, institutes fest are biggest ones in South India. My experience in institute is invaluable. I have gained valuable experience and knowledge both personally and professionally.
