Campus Life, Hostel and Placements at SASTRA University

Overall Rating
My overall experience at SASTRA University was decent. Some faculties are pretty good and experienced with very good knowledge. We get a chance to work with them in their research projects, which is a very valuable experience. The main factor that made me choose SASTRA University is it is affordable. And one more factor is that admissions are only based on merit and number of seats is limited, which is really an advantage. Staying around people who study, makes you study.
 

Academics Rating
I have chosen Computer Science Engineering. The reason for choosing it is the placements in that field. The University opens admissions every year through their portal. In which students can apply by submitting 12th grade marks or JEE percentile. 50% of the seats are allocated using 12th board marks and 50% of the seats are allocated using JEE percentile. A rank list is released based on them; with those ranks seats are allocated.
The fees I have paid are: Tuition fee is same for all courses and it is Rs. 75,000 per sem (5% increases every year). Hostel fee is Rs. 16,000 per year, Mess fee (every month) – Rs. 4,000, Admission fee is Rs. 10,000, Sports fee every year is Rs. 500 and the examination fee for every semester is Rs. 2,000.
 

Faculty Rating
All section time tables will be released along with the faculty list and we can choose interested section during CBCS registration in college portal. The faculty members that have taught me are decent, some are extremely talented and some have very minimal knowledge and some fail in teaching in the right way. All of them hold Ph.D degree in their particular fields. They use blackboards sometimes and teach using ppts and also posts ppts in the GCR. Every student will be assigned to some mentor to talk to and for seeking guidance regarding any issue.
 

Placement Rating
Yes, there's training & placement department at SASTRA University, who provides training for the interview for improving our soft skills and also helps us to bring companies to the campus. In 3rd year there's a course named Soft Skills in which HR's guide us and after third year, every student has to attend placement training by academy. The average package is 7LPA and highest is 36LPA by PayPal.
 

Hostel Rating
Yes, they do provide hostels. There are different type of rooms like 4 in 1, 3 in 1, and 2 in 1 and also single rooms and fees depend on them. Monthly fees are paid for mess and it costs around Rs. 4,000. Girls need to be in hostel by 6PM and boys by 9PM.
 

Infrastructure Rating
The campus is quite small. There's a library in the campus between the computing buildings and there are academic blocks for all schools like School of Mechanical Engineering, School of Biotechnology, School of Electrical Engineering, etc. Campus is located in Thirumalaisamduram which is close to Thanjavur and Trichy. The classrooms can seat up to 60-70 students. There are Labs and auditoriums for each and every school. There is good number of canteen inside college (only veg).
 

Campus Rating
My overall campus life is average. Fests are quite average here. The students have to organize everything. Many different clubs are there at campus, students get to connect and form connections through those clubs. Every year both cultural and technical fests are conducted in SASTRA University.
