My Honest Views on Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University

Overall Rating
Overall I would rate my university a 7 out of 10. There are many good things inside the university like very nice hostels and tidy rooms. the faculty is also very friendly and easy to understand. The infrastructure of the university is also very good. The negative sides of the university are not up to the mark mess food quality and lower than expected packages. The blocks of each department are located very far away from the hostels.
 

Academics Rating
I have chosen Civil Engineering course in my university. I got admission in university through my JEE score. You can also get admission through JOSA or CUET. There are exams held twice per semester. One in midterm of 20 marks and other is major exams of 40 marks. The other 40 marks are including quizzes and assignments. The academic pressure is for real inside the university. These academics prepare you for real life challenges when you have to find solutions quickly.
The fees of my course At Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University was Rs. 1,80,000 for 1 year (2 semester). There was a security of Rs. 10,000; Rs. 20,000 was admission and registration fee and the rest was tuition fees. There was no special discount provided to any category or disabled students. No scholarship is provided by the university.
 

Faculty Rating
The faculty members at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University of our course are well qualified and easy to understand. They make hard topics easy to understand. Various teaching methods are used by our faculty like blackboards, ppts and practical information given in ground. The problem solving abilities of our faculty is elite. The teacher to student ratio around the whole university is about 10. Most of the teachers are very friendly and have good relationship with students but some teachers are little rude.
 

Placement Rating
There is a placement cell inside Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University and it provides placements to many students. The criteria to sit in campus placements is a student must have no backlog and the average CGPA should be more than 7. Not all the students who have these criteria are guaranteed placements. Some companies like LnT and ISRO visit our university for placements. The average package provided to a student is nearly 5 lakh whereas the highest package was 30 lakh.
 

Hostel Rating
The hostel facilities are provided by the university. There are almost 8 hostels in our university out of which 3 are for girls and 5 are for boys. The Mess food is provided to us 3 times and 1 for evening snack. There are no strict hostel rules but there are strict timings for leaving the campus gate.
 

Infrastructure Rating
The infrastructure of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University is very good and the campus size is around 500 acres. There are very good seats in our classrooms. There are many more facilities like library, seminar halls, lecture halls, cafeteria, etc. There is also a big playground. There is a medical aid center and ambulance van. The favorite part about the infrastructure of my university is its well built design and space.
 

Campus Rating
The overall campus life is very good; the night life of the university is very lively. In the evening university crowd is at its peak as all the students are having a walk after a tiring day. There are a lot of clubs in university like dance clubs, singing clubs and others. Fest is organised in university every year and many other events take place inside the university on regular intervals.

    I am a B.Tech student studying in CSE, 2nd year in Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University. I choose S.M.V.D.U. because it is the only university in Jammu and Kashmir which provides placements with a decent package. Also, the infrastructure is very good. The university provides all sorts of facilities to the students including hostel mess, free Wi-Fi and all other things which are necessary for the students.     All in all, the university is great for studying and preparing for GATE and many other competitive exams. Students are encouraged by the faculty for the same too. The venue might be a little discouraging in terms of job opportunities, because it's in Katra but still, the university is pretty decent with its placements.     My overall experience here is neutral. Everything here is just average or a little above average. The location of the college is in a very remote area. It is very difficult as the transportation is very scarce. You literally have to wait for two straight hours or more to catch the local matadors which leave you at the nearest highway from where you can catch the bus to nearest towns or cities like Jammu, Udhampur or Katra.
