Shyam Lal College: A Student's Perspective

Overall Rating
My experience at Shyam Lal College has been quite average. There are different clubs in the college and the academic is average here.
 

Academics Rating
Academics are average at Shyam Lal College. It is easy to get entry in the courses. You need to pass 12th boards (from a registered state/ central board) and pass the CUET cut off for your preferred course. The admission process is smooth, you only need to pay the fee and submit the receipt at the office. Exams happen twice per year and various internal tests and assignments are given to the students. I felt the academics focused more on theoretical knowledge rather than providing the students with practical experience and guidance.
For B.A program (English + Economics), the fee structure is such that there is no admission fee and no separate library fee. Everything is included in the course fee which ranges from Rs. 24,000 – Rs. 26,000 per annum.
 

Faculty Rating
The faculty at Shyam Lal College is really good. You will get qualified teachers who are interactive and helpful. Some Ph.D holders are also in the faculty and many have completed their masters at least. The teachers use the traditional method of teaching using and whiteboard and a marker. The student to teacher ratio is a bit skewed, not enough teachers are there for a few subjects. But overall the entire faculty who we have here are nice, helpful and well qualified.
 

Placement Rating
The placements provided by the college are below average. People from B.A program do get placement but it is rare they will get a good one. High packages are offered by some companies but it is extremely rare that someone will grasp those.
 

Hostel Rating
No hostel facility is provided by Shyam Lal College.
 

Infrastructure Rating
The infrastructure is good for a college in a place like Shahdara but it could have been better. For playing sports we have volleyball court and a ground where you can play football, cricket, etc. Class infrastructure is average and kind of old, it needs some maintenance. Hostel facility is not provided by the college so students have to make arrangements on their own.
 

Campus Rating
You won't get an exceptional experience from the college. Your College life will be much better if you join the societies in the college. There are societies for people of different interpersonal skills and interests. These societies / clubs provide you with engaging activities and events. Very few but yes some fests happens here.

    Shyam Lal College is a good college to pursue higher studies. The teachers are qualified. There is a hockey ground, Volleyball court, etc. Its classrooms are well maintained.     I am very happy to pursue Bachelor of Commerce in Shyam Lal College. This course perfectly matches with my requirement and that is the reason I chose this course. The faculty here is among the best compared to all the DU Colleges. Internships are mandatory for 6th semester students.
