Civil Department in SMVDU Katra: Faculties, Facilities, & Others

Overall Rating
My overall experience in this university is above average because it is better than I expected. I chose this university because it is near my home and it provides better placements than all the universities in Jammu & Kashmir. I am currently doing Civil Engineering in this university because it is in high demand in the state. The infrastructure is also very good. University has 450 acres of campus.
 

Academics Rating
I have chosen Civil Engineering in SMVDU Katra as it has several career options in future. You can prepare for GATE and other exams for government job after your degree is completed. You can get admission by JoSAA and CSAB counseling along with university’s own counseling round. Even if your score in JEE Main is less than 50 percentile you will get Civil, Electrical and Mechanical branch easily in this university. Difficulty level of the semester exam is easy to moderate in last 2 years. The academics prepare you well for real life challenges.
The annual fee of this university is Rs. 1,85,000. The hostel fee is Rs. 45,000 per annum and Rs. 10,000 is one time security deposit.
 

Faculty Rating
Faculty of SMVDU Katra is good. Faculty is well trained and professional for the course. Most of the teachers are PhD graduates. Mr. Bharat Bhushan Jindal, the HoD of Civil Engineering Department one of the most renowned scientist in the world. Their method of teaching is old as they teach in blackboards. They give us real life examples like going to construction sites to learn real life examples. Teachers are very friendly with students my experience with them is great till now.
 

Hostel Rating
Hostels are very good. It provides free Wi-Fi, sports equipment, etc. Hostels are separate for boys and girls. Mess food can be improved and they serve food 4 times a day i.e. breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner. Hostel life is very good here.
 

Infrastructure Rating
Overall infrastructure is average considering both sides. Campus area is around 450 acres in which 20% of land is covered by trees and grass. It is located in Karkyal, Katra, Jammu & Kashmir. Classroom’s seating capacity is good enough for 60 to 65 students. There are halls available for combined classes. Sports’ infrastructure in is very good. Stadium for sports is very big. University canteen might seem overpriced.
 

Campus Rating
My overall campus life is very amazing as there are no restrictions at all for students. The university campus area is very large so it is not so crowded. University organizes annual fest in February.

    Overall I would rate my university a 7 out of 10. There are many good things inside the university like very nice hostels and tidy rooms. the faculty is also very friendly and easy to understand. The infrastructure of the university is also very good. The negative sides of the university are not up to the mark mess food quality and lower than expected packages.     I am a B.Tech student studying in CSE, 2nd year in Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University. I choose S.M.V.D.U. because it is the only university in Jammu and Kashmir which provides placements with a decent package. Also, the infrastructure is very good. The university provides all sorts of facilities to the students including hostel mess, free Wi-Fi and all other things which are necessary for the students.     All in all, the university is great for studying and preparing for GATE and many other competitive exams. Students are encouraged by the faculty for the same too. The venue might be a little discouraging in terms of job opportunities, because it's in Katra but still, the university is pretty decent with its placements. Still personally, I like the venue and the environment here, it's healthy. So all in all, it's a great and peaceful university to attend, with decent future opportunities.... Read Full Review

  • SMVDU a moderate college for overall performers

    My overall experience here is neutral. Everything here is just average or a little above average. The location of the college is in a very remote area. It is very difficult as the transportation is very scarce. You literally have to wait for two straight hours or more to catch the local matadors which leave you at the nearest highway from where you can catch the bus to nearest towns or cities like Jammu, Udhampur or Katra.
