KIITEE: Your Gateway to KIIT Bhubaneswar

In my experience the university is good overall, so before I answer why I chose this particular institute over others I’ll let you know that I am a Computer Science enthusiast and compared to other university its really easy to get computer science here and when I say easy I advise that you join this university for Computer Science streams only, because other stream's packages are very poor. Well something that really differentiates KIIT from other universities or institutes are that its campus is huge, eco friendly & occupies buildings with awesome infrastructure, so if you want to enjoy your university life it’s amazing.

So first things first, to apply in the B.Tech program you need to appear for KIITEE the entrance examination, if you opt for any of the Computer Science streams, there's a really good chance you'll get enrolled in it. So the KIITEE examination in itself is free of cost i.e. there is no registration fees required to give the examination. Entry requirement is class 12 pass + you can directly apply through JEE MAINS score too, after the KIITEE exams and result you get the stream you are eligible and opted for. After the formalities, you are called to the campus for registration and hostel formalities and allotted the hostel right away. There are 2 formal examinations per semester namely, the midsem and the endsem. Each semester lasts for almost 5-6 months. Mid sems are conducted after the first 2 months of the semester and Endsem are conducted at the last of the semester. Unlike many other universities in India, the fee structure and courses in the 1st year remain out dated.

The fee structure for a Computer Science B.Tech degree is Rs. 2,80,000 per semester. The tuition fee is approximately Rs. 1,50,000; hostel fee is Rs. 50,000 and the hostel fee may vary as per the type of room chosen by the students. Yes, there are scholarships available too, for Rank holders in KIITEE exam scholarship of Rs. 10,000 per month is granted.

The faculties at KIIT, Bhubaneswar aren't as great as one would assume when compared to the fee structure i.e. Rs. 24,00,000 for the whole 4 year program. If I were to provide a ratio, I would say 70:30 for good professors, many professors are well educated and are endowed with great teaching experience and educational background but the main problem I and many other as non-resident of Odisha faced is the communication barrier, most of the professors can't communicate well in English. Now, to talk about the methods of teaching, the class comprises of a smart board, white board, ppt, etc. but also depends upon the faculty. The teacher: student ratio is 1:80. Teachers are approachable but they aren't great when it comes to communicating in Hindi or English.

There is a dedicated placement cell in the KIIT, Bhubaneswar. For engineering the average package is 6-8 LPA and the highest is 64 LPA.

KIIT, Bhubaneswar offers residential facilities for students. There are about 30 boys hostel and the approximately the same for girls hostel, total no. of students per hostel is 500-1000 on an average, each hostel has its own mess, reading roommate there are badminton courts in the hostel too. Girls and Boys hostel are separate. Mess food's quality is below average for most of the days, meals are provided 4 times a day. Hostel fee for 3 bedded AC room is Rs. 50,000.

The campus is located in Patia, Bhubaneswar, and Odisha. It occupies 23 campuses over its vast area and it is easily accessible, being 13km from the railway station and about almost 16km from the Airport. It has multiple academic campuses each dedicated to different schools like Computer Science, Electrical, Chemical, Civil, Biotech, Mechanical, etc. Each campus has its own Conference halls, Open Air theatres, Laboratories, etc. All classrooms are air-conditioned and well-furnished equipped with blackboards and LCD's, the campus has been provided free WIFI all over.

The overall campus life is good, if you are an extrovert you can make a bunch of good friends or if you are an introvert perhaps the greenery is at your resort. There is a lot of crowd here though, given almost 5000 admission per year. About the clubs there are a number of clubs that would cover almost all of your interests. Every year there's about 2-3 fests, with KIIT fest being the most hyped and personally the best amongst all of them.
