SXC Kolkata Academic Reputation and NIRF Ranking

My overall experience in this college has been average. The college consists of two courses BMS and B.Com for commerce students and I am a part of the B.Com program. The brand name of the college was the main reason why I chose this college. The NIRF ranking of this college is 6 which are really good. It is a well recognised college. The students here have a strong academic background and come from different places. St. Xavier's College has really good discipline policies and by the end of the 4th year a student of this college will definitely be well disciplined and trained for the corporate world. Besides this the students you'd be interacting with one of the top students in their respective schools. You'll be facing throat neck competition in this college since every student is very determined.

The course chosen by me is B.Com and my interest in commerce was the reason why I decided to opt for this course. For the BMS program the student needs to appear for an entrance exam in Mathematics and whereas for B.Com program Math + English and three other subject percentiles scored in grade 12 matters. Usually the cutoff falls down to around 90 percent. Per semester a student appears for two examinations-CIA and semester exams. The environment in the college is very competitive and the academic pressure is huge. St. Xavier's College will prepare you very well academically and discipline wise

The yearly fees for B.Com evening course in this college is Rs. 1, 20,000 with Rs. 30,000 approx. to be paid every 3 months. Scholarships and financial aids are available for students belonging to low income group.

Some of the teachers in St. Xavier's College are really good while some they aren't well aware about the subject. The syllabus covered by them is huge but the practice done in class is very different from the sums that come in examinations. The teachers teach from ppts. Few of the faculty members are ex students of Xavier's college. The classes are held regularly and the teacher student ratio is really good. The teachers aren't really that approachable as a strict discipline code is followed in this college. The teachers use blackboards and projectors to teach the students.

The placement cell in St. Xavier's College is really good. They bring in regular internship for the students and many students are placed into companies from the college itself. The placements go from 50,000 to 1 LPA. Companies like Deloitte, etc. are called in the college.

St. Xavier's College campus is really small. There is only a single building. The classrooms for the B.Com department are also really small. 4 students are to sit on a single bench and there are no air conditioners. The classrooms are not that spacious. There is a computer lab in the college and 3-4 halls for seminars. The library in the college is really good with all sorts of books present. There are reading rooms in the college too. There is a single canteen in the college which has chips and few eating items and drinks like ice tea, coffee, maaza, etc. There is a huge field for sports in the college and there is a basketball court too. TT room is also there. There is an infirmary in the college too. I really like the college library and reading room. It is very well equipped. All the reference books are given in the course syllabus which you can easily borrow from the library.

The campus life is not that interesting. The students in the college are hardworking and determined. Everyone is academically much focused. There are many clubs in the college and everyday there is an event, competition or seminar held in the college. There are many things you can get involved in if you want to keep yourself busy for the entire day. St. Xavier's College fest XAVOTSAV is really fun and great. There are several events and it is a huge fest. Bollywood singers are invited for concert on the last day. Personally I’m not a part of any club but the college presents you with several opportunities.
