Admission Process and Cutoff for CSE at NIT Raipur

I am currently in 4th year of CSE in NIT Raipur. This Institute is very nice. The infrastructure maybe not be top notch but its good. The Students will have a lot of freedom to do their stuff like projects and fests and events and things. I selected this college because of its NIRF ranking. At that time according to my rank this was the best. CSE is on top of that, so it’s nice. The semester exams are not that stressful. These are at moderate difficulty so that the students can focus on the outside and real practical solving things. The faculty members encourage students in participating in events like hackathons, fund projects if the students are involved in any.

When I was joining NIT Raipur, CSE was popular so I selected it. Fortunately I was able to get it. Very experienced professors taught us. For general students the cutoff is like at 14k in JEE Main. If you get rank 14k or so in JEE main, then you guys will be able to get a seat in CSE branch in NIT Raipur. Admission process is done smoothly at the start and it takes only a day to complete the process. There are mid semester and end semester exams. The exams are not that stressful and are easily manageable. For end exam there are 2 labs exams at max including viva. Academics are good, but we put what we learned in practice and do projects. Then it’s very useful in real life experience.

The fee for general for 1 year is around Rs. 1,00,000 for admission fee. For hostel it will be like Rs. 60,000 per year and some minute expenses here and there. Registration fee will only be taken in JOSAA counseling. I think for the same are Rs. 35,000 form general and Rs, 17,500 from SC and ST. At our time these fees were given back after we joined college. For SC, ST the admission fee is around Rs. 16,000 max per year and sometimes Rs. 12,000. The hostel fee is same for everyone. Scholarships are accepted and are available in college. You just need to do some extra paper work and your good to go.

The faculty members in NIT Raipur are real good. They are very nice to students and very helpful. Both offline and online professors like Nagwani sir teach really well and have a very good experience that too not just subject oriented knowledge but also practical knowledge like giving ppt's and stuff. This is a very good college and we rarely see any fights between students, like I didn’t see any fights in all my four years and ragging is prohibited. The overall atmosphere is very good.

The placement cell of NIT Raipur is very good. It helps students to secure jobs and it is very nice in inviting top companies. They help us in soft skills, technical interviews and mock tests, interviews and stuff. It boosts confidence. The PPO is also very convertible for many students. Highest package for this year was around 58 lakh. Just today actually 2 people got in DE SHAW Company.

I think for faculties there are residential buildings. In NIT Raipur there are 6 apartments for everyone. For boys there are 5 hostel buildings and the biggest one is Sirpur where students of 2, 3, 4 year stay and 1st year students stay separately in the remaining 4 hostels namely Malhar, Mainpet, Chitrakot And Kutumsagar. Boys and girls hostels are separate and are very far from one another. There is college campus in between both places. Hostels are not enough for everyone. Most of the students stay outside so that’s a bit of disadvantage. Would’ve been nice if everyone has hostel but unfortunately no, hostels are allotted based on CPI and category. The food provided in the hostels is mediocre. For 1st years the curfew is 8:30 pm for boys, 8:00 for girls, and for 2, 3, and 4 for boys it is 10:30 pm and for girls it is 10:00 pm. Personally I liked staying inside hostel all 4 years. My stay here has been very nice and the power cuts are very rare.

The blocks and structure of NIT Raipur is good as I have mentioned before, campus size is medium. It’s enough to have privacy I guess. The transportation facility is not there specifically by the college, but students can come in bikes, cars, Scotties, etc. Parking is also available in the premises. My favorite thing to do is basically playing cricket and volleyball in the ground and court. Also the morning runs are good. We have long roads in the premises.

Overall everything about NIT Raipur is really good. There are clubs like for every branch to do new things and projects. In my CSE branch, there are clubs to like create web pages and use other technologies to make projects. Fests just recently happened, which are very nice and enjoyable. DJ party is also organized. Some well known top singers performed in it, so it was hype, people from outside Institute also came in huge numbers and they all enjoyed a lot.
