Academic & Practical Benefits of Studying Botany at GC College

Overall Rating
I study in Gurucharan college, Silchar commonly known as GC College. It is one of the top ranking colleges in Silchar, Cachar (district of Assam). It provides one of the best forms of qualification. It consists of many courses and departments with highly qualified teachers. I am from Botany department. The faculties are highly qualified and excellently knowledgeable. It is also an experienced and one of the top ranking colleges. My favorite thing is doing practicals in laboratories. The facilities of the practical part, I enjoy the most part of the subject. The facilities are also helpful.
 

Academics Rating
I chose this course because I am interested in this subject “Botany". From class 10th, I became interested in Biology hence I opted for PCB in class 12th. The admission was based on merit basis of class 12th marks and CUET examination. College conducts internals (unit tests). It is the Life Science course provides knowledge about the plants.
The total fee for my course is Rs. 15,680 per year. Examination & application fee of Assam University is Rs. 430 and same for the college is Rs. 250.
 

Faculty Rating
We have 6 faculty members in our department. Each one of them is allotted for the subject of their domain for example Plant Taxonomy, Cell Biology, etc. They all use boards for discussion most of the time, but few of them also use PPTs in projector to make us understand our subject and topics very well. The teachers are very helpful and supportive of our queries. The ratio of teacher is to student is 1:7. They took us for an excursion tour and taught us about the different types of ferns, lichens, etc.
 

Placement Rating
No, there is no placement cell present at GC College.
 

Hostel Rating
Yes, college provides residential facilities. There are separate boy's and girl's hostels in the campus. The hostel fee is around Rs. 5,000 (monthly). I have never been lived in hostel so I can’t comment on the quality of the facilities in these hostels.
 

Infrastructure Rating
Gurucharan College has of specified departments for Science & Arts and Commerce. The total area is about 8 acres. All rooms are of different sizes. Every department consists of different required laboratories and seminar rooms of their own. Labs in the college are well equipped.
 

Campus Rating
My overall college life is good (being a student of this college for almost 1 year). The college can be viewed as overcrowded, due to the many departments. It conducts many competitions like Drawing competition conducts and they conducts annual sports meet. Many competitions for the games like Chess, carom, kabaddi, cricket, etc. are organized. Our college also organizes celebrations for festivals like Durga Puja, etc.

    Gurucharan College is the only College in my city which offers my preferable degree that I wanted as it is a govt. college. It is valuable than those private ones. It is very old college and faculties are also good. Even the surrounding around the campus is nice. It is the only reputed college in our city which offers multiple bachelor courses.     I took admission in 2024 and have completed my first semester. I’m currently in 2nd semester. The overall system of the college like its teaching system, canteen, rooms and everything are good. It a government college so affordable for middle class students like me and even provides free admission and teaching to those who are financially weak.
