Kamala Nehru College: Courses, Fees, and More

Kamala Nehru College is one of the best women's colleges of the South Campus of University of Delhi. It offers courses in the fields of Humanities, Commerce, and Social Sciences. The faculty of the college is super qualified in their respective fields and the teaching methods are also extremely student friendly. Cultural events and extracurricular activities are a regular thing. This college also provides an empowering and supporting environment for women and provides them freedom of choice of education, clothing, activities etc. The placement opportunities are decent as well.

I am enrolled in the course B.Com (Hons.). The college provides students with a strong foundation in subjects like Commerce, Accounting, Finance, Human Resource, Business, Marketing, etc. This prepares students for careers in finance, amounting, taxation, and corporate sectors. Eligibility includes completion of class 12th with either Math or Accounts as compulsory subjects. Each semester has one exam at its end and each year has two semesters. Regular tests, assignments, and presentations occur.

I am in the second year of my course. The fee I paid for my 1st year (2 semesters) was around Rs. 14,000 and 2nd year (2 semesters) were around Rs. 17,000. Additional amount of approximately Rs. 1,000 can be taken during registration. Student scholarships on merit bases are available as well as economically disadvantaged student support.

The Commerce departure of Kamala Nehru College consists of experienced and great faculty members with diverse education backgrounds and specializations. The teaching methods are a blend of traditional and modern techniques. Daily lectures, with blackboard and whiteboard teaching, PPTs, group discussions, computer labs, tests, handwritten or typed assignments, presentations, etc. The teachers also have tutorial periods in which they hold interactive sessions for queries and issues. Continuous assessment is done and marks are provided for it. Mentorship and guidance from the staff is always available. The average student teacher ratio is approximately of 1:60.

Placement cell of the college is known as Prospicio. It plays an important role in bridging the gap between academics and industry requirements and prepares students for their professional journeys. The cell maintains an active communication with the industry organizes on campus training programs and informs students about internship and placement opportunities. Prominent recruiters include Nestle, Deloitte, Zomato, Wipro, etc. The average package is around 5 LPA.

Kamala Nehru college has one academic building which has around 25 spacious and well-furnished classrooms with good lighting and ventilation , projectors, charging ports, etc. The college has a 3-storey library and innumerable number of books on various subjects. The library also has a Wi-Fi and computer systems. The college has a seminar room, which is fully air-conditioned and has audio and video facilities. The auditorium is large and spacious with 2 floors and a foyer area in front. The canteen serves hygienic meals at reasonable prices with good taste and comfortable seating space. The college has good sports facilities. It also has a medical room. My favorite part of the college is the chapel as it provides me with a fresh breath of air.

The college has a diverse student body. The atmosphere is friendly and peaceful. The college has around 25 active clubs and societies like photography, dance, music, debate, writing, green beans, consumer club, Gandhi study circle, women's development cell, NSS, etc. The annual cultural fest is called ‘Ullas’ that usually happened during February or March. It is a two-day celebration with performance, music, guests etc. Winter carnival and Diwali mela also happen sometimes. Various department and society fests are a regular thing. Each batch also gets a fresher’s party.
