B.Sc Chemistry at Miranda House: Academics, Opportunities, and More

Miranda House College is one of the best colleges of Delhi University. I am perusing B.Sc Chemistry hons. at Miranda House. I am currently in 2nd year. I want to be an IAS officer so I want to do graduation from a reputable college and University so for that I chose Miranda House. We can say that it is one of the best college in DU of India. I think in Miranda House I feel secure, safe and peaceful which makes it different from other Institutes.

I am pursuing B.Sc Chemistry hons. from Miranda House because I love to study about reactions, mechanism and I am also interested to know the role of Chemistry in this real world. I have appeared for CUET after my 12th board in which I have to choose three core subjects including chemistry and one language subject that is English. After this examination we have to fill our preference list from which Administration allot college to us. Here in Dubai we have to appear for two exams per year. I think my course teaches me about how this world comes in existence also it has taught me about drugs, chemical, cosmetic which is used in real world.

We have to pay fee yearly which is around Rs. 19,000. This includes tuition fee, admission, registration charges, etc. There is special discount for PWD and SC / ST students. We have also access of scholarships from various sources.

In Miranda House we have excellent faculty who are mastered in their own field. They are well qualified and have many awards and patents. They teach us through blackboard, presentation, experiment, discussion, etc. Our professors are there for us in any situation whether it is student’s personal or professional problems. The teacher student ratio is almost 1:20. There is also mentioned mentee program where we can contact directly from faculty. They are approachable and very supportive.

There is a placement cell present here. The cell contacts with the companies and industries for better job opportunities. The average package here is 6-7 lakh per annum and highest package was 21 lakh per annum.

There are hostel facilities available in college where all basic amenities are available. I did not have hostel so I can't share any experience about that. For Hostel there are limited seats.

In Miranda House, we have mainly two blocks, Science block and Arts block. We have 3 well equipped labs with one instrumental lab with all instruments facilities. We have a large Audi and a mini Audi also. The additional facilities include seminar hall, library, etc. Here we also have departmental libraries where we access all books related to our course. In main library we can access e-books and all types of books.

Campus Life at Miranda House is something we admire the most. There are many fests and events that take place during fest season. We also have sessions and workshops organized regularly. There are many societies like Aavya, NSS, NCC, Tanz, etc. I am here for almost two years now but I feel like I have just joined and I just came yesterday. I am enjoying Miranda House since I entered the college. I feel pleasure and feel secure. My mind feels like I have freedom here to do anything. There is no fear of being judged by anyone.
