World Class Academics & Hostel Life at IIT Dhanbad

Overall Rating
Indian Institute of Technology Dhanbad, formerly known as Indian School of Mines is a well-reputed institute. It is expanding and offers the best institute experience. It is located amidst the bustling city of Dhanbad. It has a lush green campus with all the facilities and good connectivity with the city. It is ranked 17th according to the NIRF ranking. The highest package recorded this year was 80 LPA by Amazon Japan.
 

Academics Rating
I am a student of Mechanical Engineering with specialization in Mining Machinery Engineering. Indian School of Mines has specialty in subjects related to Mining. Our branch is a very old branch and has a lot of scope. I am interested in this core branch and I am fascinated by the opportunities offered by it. I enjoy learning Mechanical Engineering along with Mining Engineering. All the subjects are interesting and are very engaging.
Per semester tuition fee is Rs. 1,00,000. The fee for hostel is Rs. 18,000. However, there are many scholarships for economically weaker students.
 

Faculty Rating
Most of the faculties of our department are the alumni of our institute only. They are also industrial experts so they can provide in hand industry knowledge also. Most of them are humble and soft spoken. They are very knowledgeable and teach well. They are always ready to help, clear doubts, and also encourages students to learn new things and technologies. The lab faculties are also very good. I particularly enjoy labs the most.
 

Placement Rating
Placements in this season are good. Almost 700 students have been placed so far from our senior batch, with the highest package being 80 LPA by Amazon Japan.
 

Hostel Rating
There are many hostels including all the facilities. The new boy’s hostel that is the epitome of architecture. It is shaped as a fish if viewed from above. There are 4 girl’s hostels also. The hostel is comfortable and with all the facilities.
 

Infrastructure Rating
Infrastructure is well built. The main building known as the Heritage building is british architecture and it is very beautiful. There are many hostels including all the facilities. The new 2000 boys hostel is the epitome of architecture. It is shaped as a fish if seen from above. There are 4 girls hostel. Apart from hostel there are new buildings built on the occasion of 100 year anniversary of the college.
 

Campus Rating
My experience in IIT Dhanbad has been best so far. Currently I am in my pre-final year and the previous years have been amazing. I have good friends and I enjoy being here. Many people have their own cycles also. I enjoy playing sports also.

    I have experienced a good atmosphere at this university, which helps me to have self-confidence. I opted for this institute as it is in the middle of the town unlike other institutions, which were quite in the outskirts of cities. It also has great facilities like any other IIT and so helps in boosting one's career. It is quite famous and old. It was established in 1926 and so soon, it is going to have a century....     Our institute is one of the oldest institutes with an NIRF rank of 15th in engineering category. It recently was labeled as IIT. The existing institute campus area is about 218 acres consisting of 15 hostels occupied by students enrolled in various courses (Ph.D, B.Tech, M. Tech, etc). Also, there is a Student Activity Centre (SAC) which allows students interested in sports / acting / singing / dancing / swimming to engage themselves in their hobbies.   • Reasons to Choose ECE at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad

    For me, I have just completed my first semester here and starting to fall in love with my institute. The rain and the red color of ISM combine to probably give the best view. Not very big campus but still it seems largest when you are running late for the labs and classes. RD, Mehzban, Dominos, Barista are there to address the food craving monster inside you.     First of all it should be remembered that it's ISM before IIT. Overall experience is better. As a South Indian I felt difficult to connect with Hindi language and also to the food as most of our diet is filled with potato. The experience about studies is good.
