HBTU Kanpur: Way to Achieve Excellence

Overall Rating
HBTU Kanpur is a tier 1 university. It is very old, as it was established in 1926. Many companies offer packages of around 8-10 LPA during on-campus placements. It has two campuses: east campus and west campus. East Campus has a main building, all engineering departments, labs, class, lecture hall, girl’s hostel, first-year boy’s hostel, and football ground. West Campus has a Second, third & final year hostels, GYM, cricket ground, and all remaining sports grounds.
 

Academics Rating
I have chosen Information Technology Branch, as it has decent placement compared to other branches like the Electrical or Electronics branch. To gain admission to B.Tech, one should appear in JEE exam and apply for HBTU counseling from its website (not from JOSAA). It has a 90% quota for students of Uttar Pradesh the remaining for students of Jammu & Kashmir. It is tough for students of other states to get admission here.
One has to pay fee on a yearly basis. The tuition fee of the university is Rs. 75,000 and overall Rs. 1,35,000 (including all tuition fee, library fee, admission fee, etc.). From second year onwards, it is Rs.1,27,500.
 

Faculty Rating
The professors of HBTU Kanpur are decent. Some professors have also studied at IITs and other premier institutions. It depends on the branch you studied. In general, professors of Chemical Engineering are good but in electrical engineering, professors are not up to the mark Generally, professors teach on blackboard. In most branches, there are 70-80 students in a classroom and one can approach any professor easily. Professors are generally available in their cabin.
 

Placement Rating
The placement of university varies from branch to branch. Chemical Engineering branch has best placement. In this branch, most of the students were placed with decent packages (and some students got 2 to3 offers too). In the Mechanical Engineering branch, too most of the students were placed. In CS/IT branch, placement is average and almost 70 to 80% of students are placed with a decent package, whereas placement of Electrical and Electronics branch can be improved.
 

Hostel Rating
The university provides hostel to students. Each hostel has its separate mess. In the hostel, you are allowed to bring a mobile or laptop but you are not allowed to bring a kettle or cooler. If you want to bring these products, you have to pay extra for it. The hostel fee is Rs. 21,500 and the mess fee is Rs. 36,000 per year.
 

Infrastructure Rating
Infrastructure is decent. Some classes have AC but some do not. The library and conference hall have good infrastructure. It has three auditoriums: two are in the east campus, other one is in the west campus. It has 5 canteens and 1 cafeteria too. Transport services are also available for university but security can be improved. Bank and medical services are also available in the east campus. The campus is filled with greenery, along with many sports grounds and available equipment.
 

Campus Rating
Campus life at HBTU is enjoyable. You can go out with friends at night. There are numerous clubs including a dance club, a singing club, a debate club, and a hobby sub-council, which includes the yoga sub-council, NSS, & print media sub-council, among others. You get a lot of free time to explore your hobby and for preparing for competitive exams like UPSC and GATE.

There are some factors that made me choose this particular institute and one of these are its alumni network and it is a government university so it has its own value.     Harcourt butler technical University (HBTU) is located in Nawabganj Kanpur. HBTU is mother of IIT Kanpur. HBTU has two campus on is south campus others are in West campus. South has only hostels and field for games like Satabdi Bhavan. All academic buildings and departments are in west campus and all of them are good.     I got in to HBTU through JEE Main exam. Now talking about experience, this college is overall good since the alumni base of this college is very strong.     The overall experience is decent enough. The college is more than 100 years old and you can feel it. The college is mostly famous for it's very large you don't alumni network. The alumni of this college range from big industrialist to prestigious position holder. The core branches and mainly the chemical technology branches are famous for their reputation.     Overall, this university is really good, and it is close to my house. The university was established in the year of 1921 and therefore it has a strong alumni network which helps students in various aspects. The branch of Chemical Engineering is good here.
