Gurucharan College known for Unity, Diversity, and Quality Education

Gurucharan College, Silchar is very reputed college in Barak Valley, Cachar. I have chosen this particular college because it is best in my locality. This college is really famous for its unity and diversity.

Gurucharan College is good for its academics. I have selected the Bachelor of Science in Economics. For most of the people, it is confusing that Economics is an Arts subject so how can I take this as Science students. But Economics is dual stream subject. Hence, I have selected Bachelor of Science in Economics with Math and Statistics combination. Though it is tough to get admission in this college. First, you have to apply for admissions and then if you are eligible, your name will be in the merit list. Then you have to go to college office for confirming admission. At least 60% is required for taking admission in the college. It is also depends on departments and courses. Some department’s criteria is minimum 70%. Exams are taken monthly. There are 2 internals and from that, best will be selected.

For my course, the yearly fee is around Rs. 7000 excluding exam fee and registration fee. For four years, it is around Rs. 30,000. Fee for exams and registration is Rs. 500. Hostel fee is around Rs. 2,000 yearly. Yes, there is a reservation benefit available. For SC and ST, cut offs are also low. Some can take free admission also but family income certificate should be below 1 LPA. Scholarships are available but those who have taken free admission are not eligible for scholarships.

Faculties are good classes are regular always. In our department that is Economics department has total of 5 faculties are available currently. Most of them are PhD qualified. Their teaching styles are unique and entertainment. They provide notes to us and try to cover every topic in the lecture. Student ratio of the class is around 50 and they have e very good relations with the faculty. My personal experience with the faculty is good. For every project or assignment, they helped me a lot.

Unfortunately, placements are not available in the college.

Gurucharan College has two separate hostels for girls and boys. Hostel fee is around Rs. 2,000 yearly. There are more than 50 to 60 rooms in boy and girl’s hostels both. Both the hostels are separated and situated in different locations. Food of the hostel is acceptable. There are security guards who constantly stay near the gate of the hostel.

Infrastructure is good. Classes and halls are also good with CCTV cameras, whiteboard, and smart board. Desks and benches are also of good quality. College has a separate auditorium for stage function and programs. It has a separate big library where huge books and articles are available. Every student’s favorite place for hang out is under jackfruit tree. There is also a big canteen inside the college campus where students can get many snacks and food items. The college has separate playground and NCC ground.
