NIA Pune Hostel and Campus Facilities

National Insurance Academy is a very prestigious institute for Insurance. It has been 6 months in NIA and I am overwhelmed by the hospitality. The hostels are very well maintained. The food is really good here. Faculties are very helpful here. It has a strong record of 100% placements and the average salary is around 12 to 13 LPA. The batch size is also very low i.e. 130 to 140 students. Peers are from different regions, which give you exposure. It has a lot of other facilities. For example: swimming pool, GYM, yoga hall, meditation hall, badminton court, library, reading room, basketball ground, and cricket ground as well. Life here is not just about academics. There are lots of other events going on in every month. It also organizes guest lectures, industry visits for practical learning. Overall Life is both challenging and rewarding.

I chose Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) in Insurance and Risk Management. I had a keen interest towards insurance and that is why I chose this institute. Here I get to learn from industry experts and experienced faculties. A valid score in CAT/XAT/CMAT can help you to get into NIA. A student should have a Bachelor's degree with minimum 50% marks from a recognized university. A student has to fill an application and then the institute will release a shortlist based on score. Then there will be GD followed by PI. It can be offline or online depends on the institute. Then the final merit list is made on the basis of GD/PI score and academic scores of a candidate. PGDM follows a trimester system, meaning students have exams every three months at the end of each trimester. Apart from term ends, students are assessed through assignments, case studies, quizzes, and presentations throughout the course. The academic prepare us well for real life challenges as we have regular guest lectures by industry leaders and company visits. A summer internship is mandatory, giving students real world experience in insurance sector. There are live projects in collaboration with leading insurance firms.

Total fee is Rs. 14,50,000 (including hostel and mess) and if you don't want hostel, you have to pay Rs. 11,00,000 for 2 years. Tuition fee is Rs. 4,50,000 per year. Others (study material, library, IT & Infrastructure) is Rs. 1,00,000. There are merit-based scholarships is Rs. 5,00,000 for OBC, ST and SC categories. Currently there are no special discounts in fees beyond scholarship.

There are permanent as well as visiting faculties in NIA. Some of them are General Insurance (Anil Srivastava, Bipin Kumar, Gayathri Iyer), Finance (Shruti Nagar, S. Uma), life insurance ( Sumesh Seth, Sandeep Moghe, V. Balagopal). They follow a variety of teaching methods like lectures, case studies, presentations, Group discussions, and interactive sessions. The faculties are very calm and come with industry experience which helps to solve our little doubts. They show us live examples to make us understand better. The teacher-student ratio is 1:10 which ensures personalized attention and better interaction between faculty and students. All the faculty members and principal sir is very approachable. You can go them anytime for any doubt. They follow open-door policy.

NIA Pune has a dedicated placement office headed by a placement chairperson from the faculty and managed by the placement committee, and a student driven body. Placement cell has 8 members and entire batch is divided under these 8 members. We call them buddy leaders. They organize mock GD/PI before Internship process which helps us to prepare better. There are various resume building sessions which helps us to improve our resumes. There are various pre-placement talks and guest lecturers organized by the cell. Our institute has record of 100% placements and there are companies like HDFC ERGO, TATA AIG, SBI Life, Marsh Brokers, Value Momentum, BAGIC, BALIC, and Infosys participates in the process. I am in the first year and since only got my SIP on the day 1.

There are very limited seats for hostel and hence it is merit based. Rooms are on a twin-sharing basis. There are distinct hostel for boys and girls. There are around 60 rooms including both boys and girls hostel. Mess food is really nice. We have 3 meals in a day. There are various options available both veg and non-veg. Hostel timings are strict i.e. 10:30 PM. My overall experience has been so good so far.

NIA boasts a sprawling 32-acre campus designed to provide a conducive environment for both academic pursuits and personal development. Classrooms are air-conditioned with modern aids. Library has 25615 books with central air-conditioning, 62+ periodicals, 6 databases, and 14 newspapers. The world-class auditorium can accommodate up to 250 people. Campus is located on highway and it is around 12 km from Pune railway station and 17 KMs from airport. NIA's computer center has around 300 computers and high speed Wi-Fi. Campus is well equipped with a modern gym, swimming pool, table tennis and carom. It has its own cafeteria named Lloyd. A dispensary is available on campus with a female doctor. My favorite thing about this campus is its greenery. It makes me feel very alive. The library is one of the infrastructures that enhance my learning experience.

NIA is a very vibrant campus. The student body is very diverse, bringing together individuals from various cultural and academic backgrounds. There are many clubs that cater a wide range of interests like Cultural Committee, sports committee, and Manthan committee. There are many extracurricular activities like Annual fest- Manthan, Insurance summit at TAJ Santacruz, C D Deshmukh memorial seminar, HR Summit. My experience so far has been really good and NIA has helped a lot in my growth.
