PTU Pondicherry Campus: Facilities and Amenities

I am writing this review on my own experience and it may differ from one to another. This government engineering university has decent infrastructure and low fees. This university is a good choice for the students who are economically weaker. There is no ragging here. Puducherry Technological University has a good environment for studies. We had good memories here.

I have chosen Mechanical Engineering of my interest and got my seat in this department by CENTAC admission. It is the only process to enter this university. It is an organised government body that select students based on their 12th standard rank and for other state students are selected through JEE rank and they give you the course based on your preference and category. The Semester will be in duration of 2-3 months and exams will be conducted with study gaps in-between exams. The syllabus is followed as per UGC guidelines.

The fees may differ. The Pondicherry students have to pay around Rs. 13,851 rupees per year due to state quota (the government pays the balance amount). The other state students should pay Rs. 1,20,000 per year. SC/ST can avail scholarships and many other scholarships are also available. Hostel fees are separate and they are around Rs. 20,000 – Rs. 30,000.

The faculty is Ph.D degree holders. Experienced staff members are present across the all departments. The present faculty members are more than 220. The faculty are well experienced in their fields and helps students to understand the concept. Most of the faculty is student friendly. Some staff members are strict. Most of the staff members try to help students in all the way but some strict staffs are also present here. The student’s strength is 2500+. The guest faculty is kind and good to students. The Ph.D seniors are also good and kind.

The placement cell is present at Puducherry Technological University. Each department has Training and placement officer; they motivate and help students in their placement. These people help in bringing more companies to the university for more placements. The highest package offered is 6.2 LPA and average is 4-5 LPA. Many companies such as Wipro, TCS, Qspyder, Wabag, Cognizant, TVS, Zoho, Infosys, Capgemini, etc.

Hostel building is old and they are in average condition due to its fees criteria. The hostel has good Green and clean environment. Wi-Fi facilities are also available in the hostel. The hostel fees can be availed from the Official website for clear idea to the students. The Hostel has good freedom and timings are from 6 am to 9 pm. there is shopping complex near to the college hostel.

The Puducherry Technological University has good air conditioned auditorium with 500+ seating capacity and maintained properly. The classroom has seating capacity of 80 to 90 students with good ventilation and varies from each department. The library is big and has varieties of books for all fields of engineering. The labs are in just good condition. The canteen, small complex and dispensary are present in good condition. The university has good security and CCTV all over the campus. The university has big open ground and separate block for physical fitness and playgrounds for various sports.

The Campus is a clean green zone and have good flora. The campus is tobacco free zone with good environment near beach. The university is quite big so there is no crowding. The university conducts REJOUR a celebration of students every year during March. Many students across Puducherry attend, participate and celebrate it. The annual sports and various cultural activities take part frequently. The clubs such as English literacy club, women cell, Design club, photo club, Electoral Literacy club, Tamil club, etc. are present to engage students in different activities. My life here was memorable and heartwarming with my colleagues and friends, we play enjoy and have good memories.
