IIIT-Delhi's Hostel Facilities and Student Life

As a final year Computer Science student at Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology I would say the overall experience was great. Institute is just not about studying and getting good grades but also a platform to interact with other young talented student so there this institute stands out. Here you get all the opportunities to nourish yourself be it sports, be it academics or coding environment, we have the best coders in our institute of our country. At the same time you also get good student to faculty ratio and every faculty has multiple patent of their name and did their Ph.D overseas so academic wise also this institute stands out.

Regarding admission process, the enrollment is done based on the JEE-MAINS percentile score and there is 85% reservation for Delhi student. After you’re JEE Mains result you have to enroll in JAC Delhi counselling and based on your rank and your preference for branch seat is allotted to you. Regarding exams it solely depends on professor for some courses we just have assignment and end sem exam but for some courses we have quizzes assignment, mid sem and end sem. The course work is really up to date and very much relevant to industry standard as IIIT-Delhi gave freedom to their faculty to change their course curriculum every year without need of approval of higher authority and I have seen every year professor removes some topics which gets irrelevant to industry and add some new topics which are more prevalent in use in now days which is really great thing. Sometimes the curriculum do gets hectic so make sure to have company of good friends who could really make your life really easier in tough times.

In 2021, for our batch fee for each semester was Rs. 2,00,000 per semester which makes overall B.Tech fee to be Rs. 16,00,000 for the whole course along with that if your are opting for hostel you have to pay Rs. 34,000 per semester along with Rs. 8,000 mess fee per semester. Fee is same for all category student be it EWS, ST, SC, OBC or PwD. But you do get scholarships. There is Delhi Government Merit Cum Means Scholarship in which if you have NFS card you get 100% fee waiver, if your parental income is till 2.5 LPA you get 50% fee waiver, if the parental income is till 6 LPA you get 25% fee waiver. In addition to that, there is also IIIT-Delhi Income Linked Fee Waiver Scheme, the criteria are same as Delhi Government Scholarship but you have to maintain GPA of 6 throughout the semester to opt for it.

Teachers are really having great knowledge that comes under top 2-3% professor of country. All did their Ph.D from overseas universities having multiple patents granted. The classrooms are fully air conditioned along with one big smart white board along with multiple big LED installed, so even if a student is sitting in corner or at last bench can see on either big board or other LEDs. Faculty to student ratio really depends on course, for some courses its 30:1 but for courses which are common to multiple branches it can even go up to 150:1.

Placement of Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology is on downward spiral may be because of recession in industry. when I joined this institute in 2021, at that time placement stats were 100% with average package of 22 LPA but now it has gone down to 80% for this year (ongoing placement session). In my branch only 60% students are placed so far with average package of 15-16 LPA. Almost all big tech companies visits our campus be it Google, Microsoft ,Qualcomm, Math Works, Adobe, Goldman Sachs, Intel, Nvidia, and many overseas companies such as Uniqlo for Tokyo Japan, Cispa for Germany, Nagasaki University for Ml Research Internship also visited the campus. And yes I already got placed from this institute can't reveal company name because of placement cell policies. Average package is still somewhat 15-16 LPA with highest packaged as 60 LPA and least as 8 LPA.

Hostel infrastructure of IIIT, Delhi is really good compared to other institutes. There are two types of occupancy single and double sharing. Hostels are equipped with air conditioners during Delhi summers and geysers & heaters during winters. We also have common boys rooms where you can watch cricket match, Netflix or play foosball with friends and you are provided with kitchen having air fryer, microwave and any other common kitchen facility. Mess food quality is average you will enjoy most of the time but sometimes it’s not very appetizing. There is no curfew timing in hostel, you can come at any time and leave it even at 3 am in the morning. There are no restrictions. They treat you as an adult who know their well being very well.

Campus size is small but space is very effectively utilized with lush green campus. For sports we have indoor badminton court, swimming pool, squash, table tennis and gym is really great you can compare it with any other paid gym you would have every visited. all the equipment along with gym instructor is there. We have one canteen and one medical staff room which are open 24x7. CCTV is installed in every corner of campus even in every floor of hostels for your security.

Campus life is overall good a bit hectic in terms of academic pressure but if you have good friend circle then that thing is manageable apart from this we have multiple clubs like Meraki which is our art club, Tasveer which is photography club, club for programming enthusiast and many other. Our annual institute cultural fest is ODDYSEY which is one of the largest fest in Delhi after IIT-Delhi last year much prominent personality such as Shankar Ehsaan Loy and Krishna performed there.
