Scottish Church College BBA Review By Siya Bansal

Scottish Church College Kolkata is a famous minority Missionary College and also one of the oldest colleges of the country. The name might not be enough to allure students as Presidency University Kolkata, Techno India University, The Heritage Academy, and St. Xavier’s among others are more famous. Talking about SCC, it’s more of an open and free college. I have spent enough time at the college library as it was great for me to study in peace. SCC is like a small part of a school or rather a quite school where one can study and peace and easily pass out. If you cheer a good campus life than those will be converted into tears as SCC doesn’t present a great campus life. The college though has excellent relations with many international communities and faculties were also brilliant so in short not just studies but you can learn various other things at SCC. So, leave Che Guevara and come to a quiet place to study at SCC.

BBA (Hons) is a rare course and is available in just a few colleges and Scottish Church College is one of those. We used to have extended lectures every now and then. An outstretched course by all means and made the course look brilliant. Even my parents were like their daughter is studying something serious. I wish they knew that college is giving us unnecessary assignments and projects. Case study projects to me counted for nothing when the whole theory of it revolves around choosing instinct over artifacts. An extended run of play was there but I would still rate academics of SCC the best in business.

SCC faculties have been hired after they went through the enormous process because the management’s torso would have been aching unless they get the best people on board. The faculties were outstanding as they would never let us say that forever is enough. If there’s anything beyond that, they would make us go there too. Their way of teaching and communicating with each student had a different flavor. Since, the strength is low; the students were always on the driver’s seat because the faculties gave full attention to students. I wish there were words to thank them because their simplicity owed me. However, they were greedy too because no matter how much do you try, they would still want more. So, if they are reading my review, please curb down your expectations a bit as you have extracted everything that I had in my tank.

Well, honestly BBA (Hons) placements weren’t that great or should I say were not even good. Sorry for being a little blunt but there’s no point lying as I had to do PGDM after completion of BBA because I was among the majority who didn’t got placed through SCC. Companies like Amazon, Flipkart, CESC, and others have come for recruitment but with lesser hopes and lesser shoes to take home as BBA (Hons) course can never guarantee placements. I have checked the placements of all the colleges that I have named above and placements scenario for all of them is same.

The colleges do provide great hostel facilities for boys and girls. However, there’s a catch, if one wants to stay away from all the glitz, and the glam and the fashion then they can certainly be a part of hostels. One is warned of all the rules that are followed at the hostel as one of my friends used to stay at Lady Jane hostels of the college and she was like, it’s strict than her home. For food there’s a time, for visiting your friend’s room too there’s a time. The dressing sense too has to be as per the rules because girls were not allowed to wear shorts or crop tees outside their rooms. Having said Scottish Church College hostel does guarantee is a peaceful environment for students to study.

Scottish Church College campus is divided in two parts as one campus just has the admin department while the campus where we used to study, it has seven buildings including the academic blocks, and hostels. The total area comprises of 6 acres and college may look old but from inside all the modern machineries have been installed. From smart classrooms to entirely Wi-Fi campus, the campus has almost everything. The library was amazing and so were the limited sporting facilities that our campus had.

Well, campus life here means a peaceful life and students can’t roar or play music inside the campus. Chit chat about studies, or the small little events that happened at the college. The loudest voices came at the campus during the prayers as just like the schools, SCC also start their day with prayers. The colonial buildings of the campus were so magnificent that we just kept gazing at the beautiful architecture of the campus.
