International Management Institute PGDM Review By Ananya Mohapatra

IMI is a brand name when it comes to B-Schools and the stakeholders, i.e., Goenka’s are into education business for so long that student’s interest will always be kept first at their schools or colleges. IMI Kolkata was no different as it is relatively new but has grown leaps and bounds in recent past. IMI has their own entrance test and though easier than CAT/MAT or the other entrances one still has to crack it because out of 15,000 people that give the entrance of IMI, only 1200-1500 are selected including all three campuses, i.e., IMI Delhi, IMI Bhubaneshwar, and Kolkata. For Delhi one has to be at the top and therefore that was not possible for me. Among Bhubaneshwar and Kolkata campus, I chose Kolkata as Kolkata is a city where girls enjoy freedom and people don’t objectify girls. I am sorry sounding so feminist but from my eyes I see the world how I have been treated until I reached a certain stage. IMI Kolkata was one of the best things that happened to me as I could come to my own here and nobody judged me for that.

I enjoyed every bit of academics as I was totally in the moment as soon as I joined IMI Kolkata. I would like come to how the studies were done here. Classes long and sharp from morning till evening. From Monday to Friday and Saturday we used to have some or the other guest lectures, workshops or some revisions. So, Saturday was more of a relax day as mental fatigue has got the better of many is what we have witnessed over the years. At, IMI it one magnificent moment because academics were kept at the top and then every other thing revolves around it. So, academics were the sheet anchor because one can improvise with their projects and assignments but certainly not with the curriculum.

If the institute had the victory overall, one would have to say, it had faculties to appreciate for that. Most of the faculties were from IIM Kolkata and so they brought along that culture, that vibe, that students of IIM have in them. They were coolest, understanding and friends for life as I am still in touch with my professors and any advice from them at any point is what I could ask them for and they would be more than happy to help me out. So, the faculties have to be appreciated for all the products of the victory that IMI Kolkata enjoys.

If wealth creation business has paved way for new ideas than getting students placed in the best possible manner idea was born at T&P cell of the college. The laughing sessions, the learning sessions, and the training sessions at T&P department gave us confidence that even if we don’t find placements at the campus, we would still end up being paid fair & square off-campus. Well, even though IMI Kolkata placements were around 70%, I was happy not to be on the other side of it and as soon as our name was there in the list of probable’s and finally when it was declared, we decided to get high at the campus and give it up for the T&P department as those one and a half month of rigorous training that we went through yielded best dividends ever.

The campus has two of the best hostels in boys and girls hostel adjacent to each other. IMI Kolkata hostel was tidy as ever and laced with technical features such as somebody crossing the gate during the curfew will have alarm bell ringing. Somebody smoking outside the blind spots will have alarm bell ringing. So, rule breakers, stay away from IMI Hostel as it presents the best hostel life but with certain rules.

The infrastructure of the IMI Kolkata campus is an exemplary of how technology has grown because from automatic doors to high tech elevators, the campus had them all. Just escalators were added to it and it would have looked like an international airport. It was that damn pretty and high tech. The buildings look like a corporate office and the café and the VIP lounge of the campus gave us a feeling of having a high-level meeting at some high-end place. So, the feel of life after becoming a part of the corporate sector was lived inside the campus.

The campus life at IMI was like futuristic because the corporate hours that we spend today, we had to shed that many hours studying or doing projects at IMI. The college boasts some of the best events and one such event was Management fest CONFERO which proved why IIMs are the best because students from IIMs were there and they just swept it at the fest in both the years, in which I was a part of the college.
