SASTRA University Fee Structure and Scholarships

My overall experience of this institute is that it has good infrastructure and good academics. Based on same reasons I have chosen this college. The college is different from other colleges because fees is low, has good placements and advanced facilities available in college for research. I have chosen this college based on good reviews, that there are good placements and advanced technologies for research and other factors like good teaching.

I have chosen IT because in future IT will be booming and students from IT background can get jobs in MNC’s. Admission requirements are JEE mains and Inter board scores. There is no eligibility everyone can apply but limited seats are there. For admission process, we need to apply online and counseling process will be continued online only and based on rank we can get seat in college. There is three mid-semester exams and a semester exam every semester.

Fees 1st year College fee is Rs.1,67,000/-, Second year College Fee is Rs.1,57,300/-, Third year fee is Rs.1,64,000/- and Fourth year college fee is Rs.1,70,000/-. Scholarship- NSP scholarship is available for both boys and girls.

Some faculties have good experience in teaching and some not. Background of faculty is Ph.D in IIT's and NIT's. Some faculty did Ph.D in our college itself and joined as lecturer. Method of teaching like blackboards, PPT's and also group discussion and seminars. Some faculty have good problem solving ability. The ratio is about one teacher for 20 to 30 students. Some faculty have friendly nature with students. Most of the faculty will depend on PPT's and some faculties will teach on black-boards.

Placements are conducted from the starting of the 4th year or 7th semester. Placement cell is handled by faculties. Many of the students are placed in good MNCs and about 250 companies are visiting our campus for placements. Packages offered by recruiters is around Rs.24,00,000/- per annum is highest package and average is around Rs.7,00,000/- per annum. I have no experience as in the coming days I will sit for placements.

Yes this college offers residential facilities in hostel rooms and food. There are a total of 5 blocks and capacity is around 4000 students. Rooms with attached bathrooms are also available. Girls and boys hostel are separate. Mess food is better but not hygienic.

Hostel fee – Rs.16,000/- (per room per year)
Mess fee - around Rs.4,500/- (per month)
Hostel rules is we should not bring non-veg. food inside the rooms and timings is by 9.00pm we need to give biometric attendance. My experience is it is worth the money we are paying

Campus has different academic blocks for different branches like school of computing (for CSE and IT) and VV (for Electrical) and NMV (for Civil) and JVC (for Biotechnology) and Chanakya (for Law) and VKJ (for Mechanical) and many other blocks for polytechnic and MBA and also for research. Campus is spread on around 230 acres and location is on Thanjavur to Trichy road. Class room is good and seating capacity is around 60. For every block there is separate auditorium and labs are available. Sporting competitions are organised such as “Fuera” and we can also participate in that. Hospital is present inside college and canteens also there inside college itself. Transport facilities for day scholars are available.

My overall experience is that the college is not that much effective because every month we need to write exams and practical tests. Coming to crowd, 4000 students are there including day scholars. There are many clubs but I am not in any club. Extra-curricular activities like dance, music and many others are there in which we can participate. In fests and events in our college ‘Kurukshastra’ a cultural fest is the main one and ‘Daksh’ a technical fest and ‘Colloseum’ a sports event. But finally we can get good placements in this college.
