Bachelor of Commerce (Hons.) Program at SXC Kolkata

My experience here at St. Xavier's College, Kolkata (Autonomous), has been advancing and transformative. The journey here has been like a roller coaster ride, with the rigorous academics, skill development, personal growth and self-transition. Besides academics, it offers a lot of extracurricular activities. It has more than 15+ societies, zillion intra and inter college events, networking sessions, annual fests with amazing stars performing live. Such factors have significantly contributed to my holistic development. It's a lifetime experience and it’s an honor to get the Xavierian Tag. Once a Xavierian is always a Xavierian. This stays with an individual always and forever.

The course that I chose is Bachelor of Commerce (Hons.), it proves to be an excellent course for students interested in building their foundation career in finance, business or commerce field. By pursuing this undergrad course, there are many future options, such as Chartered Accountant (CA), Auditing and Finance, Human Resource (HR), Sales and Marketing, and many more. The entry requirement depends on the class 12 percentage, with math as a compulsory subject. The cut off list is generally high. The admission process is quite simple and easy for the students to follow the procedure. There are total 6 semesters and in each semester there is Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA) of 40 marks each and an End Semester of 8- marks. There are seminars and PPT sessions. The questions are set by external faculty which molds and prepares the student to crack difficult things in life.

The fee structure depends on different courses. One needs to pay fee twice in one semester, making a total of 12 times of payment during the entire duration of the undergraduate course. The fee for entire 3 years is Approximately 3-4 Lakh.

One of the reasons of St. Xavier's being an amazing Institute is due to Faculty. Here every faculty member has a high profile build in the respective field in which they excel. The method of teaching varies from professors to professor. Some prefer using the power-point presentations, while some uses the white or black board. Every teacher tries to involve the entire class by asking various questions in between, making it a fun and interesting class. Teachers not only guide the students for the academic purpose but help them through the personal situations. They mentor them and finds out a way to ease the problem.

The placement cell of St. Xavier's is what to students here brag about. The placement cell offers high quality internships to all the first, second and third year students while full time placements are offered to the final years. The package for internship lies between Rs. 3,000- Rs 15,000 per month while the full time offer varies from 3 L.P.A. to 30 L.P.A. This sums up to be a great deal. Companies like, Mckinsey & Company, TATA, D. E. Shaw, Loreal, Accenture, Meesho, and many more. Placement Cell offers different roles to different students according to their specialization, which is a great opportunity for everyone.

Yes, the College offers residential facilities. It has got amazing place for the students to stay. It makes a place for them that makes them feel like home. The girls and boys have separate hostels. The students need to follow the timeline of returning back. If any student exceeds the timeline, there are consequences, which they need to face. This gives a reassurance to the family members, that there child is in safe hands.

St. Xavier's has one of the biggest Libraries in Kolkata, which fosters an environment of learning, innovation and creativity. The infrastructure contains of 5 floors, with each floor having more than 6 classrooms, a separate entire building dedicated for practical laboratory for different courses such as Excel, Python, SQL, etc. There is a canteen, where the students can get refreshments during the breaks and can create some unforgettable memories with their friends. The infrastructure is not only academicals but also aesthetically pleasing with ample natural lighting and green spaces. It has a basketball field, a huge field where various sport games are conducted, such as volleyball, football, and different sport activities. It has different rooms, such as the auditorium, where different events are conducted.

The overall life here at St. Xavier's is dynamic and vibrant. It’s a perfect blend of academic, social events, personal growth, skill development, networking and more. This diverse benefits help to build innovation and creativity. The student crowd is enthusiastic, driven and motivated in pursuing their future goals. The college offers various societies and clubs. The annual fest- Xavotsav, which is a 3 day event, and on the final day it’s a ritual that the College follows, i.e., to invite a star, such as Shilpa Rao, Armaan Malik, Shalmali, and more such amazing artists.
