Choose RNSIT Bangalore for Cyber Security

I am currently in 3rd year and till now the experience was fair. RNSIT Bangalore is affiliated to VTU for our batch (it became autonomous now so new batches will not be under VTU). If I compare it with other institutes under that university, it is one of the best institutes out there. Although if I compare it with other institutes in Bangalore, it ranks in 10. In the review, I have explained what the perks of it are and what the drawbacks of joining it are. I chose this institute because I wanted to join an institute in Bangalore and this was the best institute I could get for my rank with good placements. The academics and support from the faculties is what that differentiate this institute from the others.

I chose CSE in Cyber Security course as I had good interest in the field. If you do not have interest in this branch, you should avoid it. The curriculum of Cyber Security is average. I feel our HOD is the main man here, he has a very good reach in providing placement opportunities, and he is said to be the best faculty of our institute in terms of managing academics and placements of the students. The entry requirement for the institute is that you must score some 20 to 30k rank in COMEDK (I do not know about KCET). In addition, you must have scored more than 60 percent in 12th grade. For admission you have 3 processes, one is COMEDK, which an exam conducted all over the India for admissions in Institutes in Karnataka and second is KCET, which an exam conducted just for the Karnataka residents. In both exams, according to the rank you got, institute is allotted to you in the counseling. Last is the management quota. Exams are conducted each month (Internal 1, 2, and 3) and then end sem starts. Academics are good though I feel some subjects are not required in real life. In addition, there is a very good thing that happens in our institute, which is regular presentations and other activities that boost your communication skills. Each month, we have at least 2 presentations to give.

The fee you have to pay is year wise (2 semesters). The fees structure is close to 3 Lakh for COMEDK students and close to 1.2 Lakh for KCET students. Scholarships are provided for KCET students and for COMEDK students, there are no scholarships. The discount is decided by your academic achievements.

In our department, some faculties are good while some are not. It depends, though they all have good knowledge of the subject still some are not much supportive. In our department, 70 percent of the faculty members are perusing PhD. While some of them have completed their PhD. At minimum, all the faculty members are M.Tech graduates with good knowledge about the subjects they are teaching. It is similar in every branch. The method of teaching usually depends on the faculty. Most of them teach with the PPTs and some use blackboards. Coming back to the faculties, they often encourage doubts and solve them clearly. We can also reach out to them on WhatsApp for any doubts. Most of the faculties are approachable when you come to 2nd year.

There is a placement cell at RNSIT Bangalore, which conducts various trainings before the placement season starts. It reaches out to companies to come and hire students from our institute. It tries it best for getting all the students placed. I am saying this because during recession I noticed when other institutes were not providing any placements to their students, our institute was getting the companies, even though the package was 3 or 4 lakhs but there was placement at that time also. There is training conducted for 6th semester students because approximately from that time only the companies starts coming. There are two types of training technical and non-technical, so it makes sure that the students are fully prepared for the placement season. To be honest, the placements are not that high, which you expect when you come to Bangalore. The average is around 6 LPA and few companies come with CTC of upto 25 LPA package. Recently, Oracle came to offer 2-month internship for 5th semester students and one girl was selected from our institute who got 50k per month stipend. If you are not able to clear any placement, then at last TCS, Infosys, and L&T like companies will come and mass recruit you.

The institute provides one hostel for boys and one hostel for girls. The fee is upto 1.5 Lakh annually and the services provided are not upto the mark, the food is average. One good thing about the hostel is hostel life. It is good if you can manage food and congestion. A hostel fest is conducted every year, which is by far the best fest of our institute. The whole hostel is divided into 4 teams and they all compete with each other in 50+ activities and games. The hostel timings for girls is till 8 PM and for boys it is 11 PM. I stayed in the hostel during my first year, Food and fees was not suited for me that is why I left and went to PG, but the hostel life was great. You can find many PGs near the institute, so you can choose them, or you can stay in a flat also, the expenses are same.

The institute’s campus is not so big. There is a lot of abandoned space here, so I suppose it will plan to grow the campus in future but at present, it is not much big. Academic blocks are fairly maintained. One new block is also under construction, which is expected to finish next year. Classrooms capacity is 70, which is the amount of students in each class, and every classroom have projector, screens, and blackboards. In each floor, there is a seminar hall, which is used to conduct some events or presentations. The most beautiful part of the institute is library, it is newly made, and it looks wonderful from inside with good amount of books there. There is also a park where students can sit and roam around. There is a main auditorium, which is used in special events. Each block have sufficient amount of labs for all the subjects. There is a big food court in the campus, though it needs to improve the menu. Security is ensured by SIS (a security agency), and it is good. There are guards all over the campus.

Campus life is good. There are stairs where everyone sits during break time. The crowd is somewhat mixed, some are studious, some are not. Some are stylish, while some do not care. You can find a variety of people here. There are many technical, cultural and sports clubs, which students can join. The clubs participate in various events outside the campus of RNSIT Bangalore. The expenses are covered by the institute itself for travel and accommodation. 2 fests are organized every year by the institute. Overall experience of the campus life is good.
