Opportunities and Challenges at KIIT School of Computer Engineering

KIIT offers a great campus life with strong infrastructure and good opportunities for students. Academics are decent, but you have to do self-study too. The fee are quite high though. Most of the faculties are helpful and approachable, actively involved in research and projects. You can choose sections in each semester, students review help in choosing sections. The placement department provides good support. Hostels are comfortable and mess food is decent overall. 7:00 to 8:00 PM is in time, depending upon your year and hostel. Its green campus had beautiful gardens, art, and excellent sports facilities like cricket stadium and indoor arena. The university hosts big events with famous guests like Bill Gates and several ministers from India and abroad. With great hangout spots and a lively environment, it provides a great experience. You have numerous extracurricular activities and events.

I am a B.Tech (CSE) student and will graduate in 2026. It is renowned for its B.Tech programs especially, under the School of Computer Engineering. It offers multiple branches of Computer Science, such as CSE, IT, CSSE, and CSCE. You can choose a minor course in 6th semester. Apart from core subjects, you can select electives from 1st semester. However, like any institute, relying solely on academic knowledge many not fully prepare you for the real world.

For international students from South Asian countries, fee is 12.2 Lakh for entire 4 years. For national students, Rs. 1,75,000 per semester for tuition fee, Rs. 50,000 for hostel, and Rs. 22,500 for mess. You have to pay fee before end semester exam in each semester.

Some faculty members may not have complete expertise in the subjects they teach. However, the majority of the faculties are graduates of prestigious institutions like IITs and NITs or hold PhD degrees. It is important to find the right faculty member for your needs, as they are generally very approachable. Many faculty members are actively involved in research and regularly publish papers. Many students collab with faculty on research projects, and publish it. It also keeps the quality of faculty in check by taking reviews of the teaching staff on the regular basis.

KIIT has strong placements in the B.Tech CS department, though other courses are average. The placement department starts guiding students from the 4th semester, which used to be 6th semester before. While companies like Google or Microsoft are not available, many MNCS, national companies, and startups recruit from here. HighRadius has its office on the campus, which offers internships and placements. New 20+-storey building is under construction on campus and is expected to be completed in 2 years. It is aiming to have more company’s offices in that building.

The university has separate hostels for boys and girls with options like non-AC, AC, and premium hostels. Most hostels are 3seater, except for some premium 2 seater ones, with additional fee of Rs. 10,000 to 15,000 for upgrades. The in time is 7:15 PM, with an allowance of 15-30 minutes, depending on the hostel and valid reason. International hostels have more lenient with in time.

One of the most standout features of this university is its infrastructure, comparable to top government colleges in India. It is a multi-campus university. Its 25 campuses are spread in 25 square kilometer land. Major restaurant chains like KFC, Starbucks, Domino's, Burger Kings, along with local restaurants and street foods are easily accessible in the premises. Necessary products are also available nearby or within campus. The buildings are spacious and comfortable, with AC in all rooms. All 25 campuses are full of greenery, flowers, and painting and art-covered walls. Shuttle and bus services are provided for easy transportation, to travel between campuses. The university also has its own KIMS Hospital, where you can get free check-ups as a student. It also offers excellent sports facilities, including gyms, swimming pools, and centers for badminton, table tennis, snooker, and pool. The campus has a cricket stadium, several football grounds, Biju Patnaik Indoor Stadium for boxing and badminton, basketball, and volleyball. Overall, I have no complains about its infrastructure.

Another standout feature is its vibrant campus life. The university hosts numerous events, inviting prominent guests like Bill Gates, Om Birla, former Prime Ministers, Presidents of foreign countries, Central & State Ministers, and Odisha's former CM, Naveen Patnaik, on multiple occasions. These courts are available outside along with lawn tennis courts.
