SRM University NCR for Your Engineering Degree

I am in 4th year when I am writing this review. Let me share my experience from all the years in my university so far. I joined my university during Covid period so my 1st semester was online, starting in the middle of August. We had classes on Google Meet from 9:20 AM to 4:20 PM with a break in between. From 2nd semester, offline courses were scheduled. Though I was hesitant at first, it was way more fun. The infrastructure was good and classes were air-conditioned. We had 3 different canteens and one small cafe in our block. From 2nd year onwards, both the studies and fun escalated. However, there were some problems like there were no spots we could visit if we had no classes. Factors that made me choose SRM were pretty simple, firstly there wasn't just JEE rank for me to take admission as they also held their exam called SRMJEE, consisting of Math, Chemistry, and Aptitude, through which I got admission. Also, SRM is among the top 20 universities in India. There's nothing special in that university that makes it unique, it's just the Name of SRM.

I enrolled in B.Tech CSE as during my time of admission, that course had the most positive return out of any. I didn't have any plans for specialization as my main focus was just to get into Computer Science. For those reading this, if you take admission go for a CSE specialization in Data Science, AI/ML, or Cyber as these 3 are at the top (same order). If you take admission through JEE Main, during my time the minimum requirement was 90 percentile or if you give SRM JEE, then it depended on the rank, to get admission in the main university, your rank should be below 2000 and approximately 2 lakh candidates used to apply. I got a decent rank and got CSE in Ghaziabad Campus and 85%+ was compulsory in both 10th and 12th standards with CBSE. You can apply through the SRM website or visit personally. For exams, that was a bit of an issue as the Internal Exams (during my time) used to happen every 20 to 22 days, since there were 3 internal exams + 1 Semester exam. Now it is 2 internal + Semester exams. Through exam process, it was very tiring since there were no preparation leaves in between exams and sometimes 2 exams in one day (internals only).

During my time, the fee for B.Tech CSE core was 2 LPA, but now its 2.5 LPA with an additional Rs. 10,000 in the first year labeled as extracurricular. The registration fee was Rs. 1,800 for the SRMJEE exam and the tuition fee was 2 Lakh. There were concessions given to students based on quota Like State Level Players or your rank in SRM JEE/ JEE Main. Scholarships were given to the top rankers, as the whole fee would be free for them.

Some teachers were so professional in their skills. These teachers were more like mentors that students used to share everything with them and ask them for advice in many steps. Most of the professors had finished their PhD and educated in their highly, do remember is said most of the teachers. For the method of teaching, we have smart boards in each class along with whiteboards. Teachers used to teach using multiple methods like PPTs, group discussions while some gave practical demonstrations in the labs. Each class had strength of 55 students and for each subject, there were 3 - 4 teachers. My experience and bonding with the teachers was very beautiful as I never felt like studying was a burden as they were all friendly and approachable making it fun to attend lectures.

Placement is where we lack as our campus was more focused on the placement of the main campus. For my batch, the average package that is coming is between 4 to 8 LPA and crossing 10 to 15 from time to time. Companies like Oracle, Deloitte, and Amazon do visit. The services need to be improved as our branch’s placements have lot of room for improvement.

Yes, SRM NCR campus does offer residential facilities. There are multiple buildings with each floor 7 - 8 rooms. There are single and twin sharing rooms, having attached washrooms. The rooms are little bit small. Yes, both the girl’s and boy’s hostels have separate buildings. The girl's hostel has another gate between the entrances itself with a guard. Mess food is basic. Hygiene is normal. They wear hair caps and gloves. Hostel fee of 3 LPA, not sure about the new amount. Timings are from 5 AM to 7 PM after that the student can't stay out of the hostel (the hostel inside has a ground and garden). Attendance was taken at 7:30 PM and mess timings were 8 to 9 AM for breakfast, 1 to 2 PM for lunch, 5 to 6 PM for snacks, and 8 to 9 PM for dinner. My personal experience was average. If you live very in another state then only go for a hostel. Many PGs near the campus are also available at the cheaper rate, so you can also try for those.

The campus is of 30 acres. Academic block is a 5-floor building, each floor having 16 classes. Each class is big and has air condition so it's all cozy enough especially in summer since it gets way too hot. Washrooms are variable as you move from the ground floor to the top the conditions of the washroom can be improved. The library was one of my most favorite as there is a sitting arrangement as well and it usually stays quiet in there, but it needs to bring more copies for each book so that more students can study with the same book at the same time. Now labs are the main centre of attraction of our campus. We have a dedicated floor called Vendhar centre, which is like a completely new world. They are maintained perfectly, and beautiful. Not just the labs but also the whole floor is air-conditioned, and each lab has IMAC. Seminar halls are big with a capacity of 1600 people. The Conference Hall is outside the Academic Block and is maintained perfectly as well. All the important meetings, including the CR's meetings with the Higher, happen there as well. Canteen food is basic. We have 3 canteens Red, Yellow, and Green. Green canteen is the hangout spot for most of the students and has high chance of meeting your friends there. For sports, if you are a day scholar not much for you as most of the equipment is given to hostlers. You can play chess, table tennis, and other sports. Transport is provided, we have university buses that are convenient and have AC. My most favorite thing is the Venda Centre, Green Canteen (Chili Potato is a must) and Jain Chatore, a small café near the 2nd entrance of out university. Food is little expensive but tasty.

Overall campus life was a little above average. Most of the days were good. Most of my batch mates were hostlers so mass bunk was a pretty common thing. The crowd is good and on a good day, you can really see a lot of liveliness and the same during the exam days. There are multiple clubs for coders, artists, music, art, NCC, and much more though most of the clubs are for Developers among them CSI, Computer Society of India, Geeks for Geeks and GDSC were clubs also put a little weight in the resume if you were at a good level in their hierarchy. I was part of all the clubs at some time just to see how it was. Many Events were organized by the clubs, which did have Cash Prizes. For fests, our main was ‘Roobaroo’, the yearly fest organized by the university and it is beautiful, especially if you are a day scholar, don't miss them, and enjoy your university life.
