IIT Delhi Location, Culture, and Academics

I have completed one semester as an Undergraduate at IIT Delhi. It's been a wonderful 1st semester. Some of the factors that made me choose this institute can be its start-up culture, Healthy Competition, and being in the capital of India. It provides great support to the students with startup ideas. There is a separate committee for it, which can provide financial and administrative support to innovative ideas. Not only that, there is also a healthy environment for budding entrepreneurs. Everyone here is aiming high in his or her lives. This institute also puts great emphasis over maintaining an healthy environment and giving the best among your peers not only academics but also sports, cultural events, etc. Many things in this institute are also favorable because of its location. Airport, railway station, etc. are at closer distances from the campus.

I have enrolled in Chemical Engineering (4-year B.Tech). Honestly, the main reason for joining this branch was my JEE rank. Basically, I preferred this institute to branch. For undergraduate program in IITs, you have to clear JEE Main and get a good rank in JEE Advanced (for which you are eligible if you clear JEE Main). Similarly for Postgraduate, you have to clear GATE exam.

Here is a fact; IIT Delhi is the most expensive amongst all the IITs. For every semester, you have to pay 1.50 Lakh (including mess food and accommodation). However, if you belong to SC/ ST category, it will be reduced to some extent (I don't know how much). You can easily avail scholarship if your family income is less than 1 Lakh Per Annum. Both of my roommates have availed the scholarship.

Honestly, there are two types of faculty, those who can teach well and others who are good in research field. Their main job is to be involved in research department though they have good knowledge. There are weekly classes (tutorials) conducted by either PhD students or final year students. These tutorials help us to understand the topics that weren’t covered by the professors in the class. About teacher to student ratio, for first year students it is around 1:150.

Obviously, IIT Delhi provides accommodation facilities. Three students share one room.

The campus is beautiful with plants and trees everywhere at the campus. Compared to other modern IITs, its infrastructure can be viewed as an average. But it has top-notch research facilities. You can find lot of machineries in almost all the departments. About campus size, it's can be considered decent being at the place like capital. It has one central library with all basic facilities. It has remarkable Dogra hall (auditorium). It has transportation facilities. It has Nescafe and Amul where you can find snacks. The best part is academic section, library, and canteen all are very close.

Campus life is hectic, as I have to manage academics with sports & cultural events. It has huge crowd. Yes, lot of clubs are there ranging from robotics to arts and music to debate. you can find any club you are interested in. Yes, an annual sports Event (GC) is hosted every year for students, which have all types of sports. I don't think that I have to tell about fests, as its events are famous in the country.
