Symbiosis Institute of Technology B.Tech Review By Ankita Roy

There was a lot of purchase at Symbiosis Institute of Technology Pune because I don’t know about IITs or the other top ranked colleges but even B. Tech from here is as good as those colleges. Well, the college is good but even you have to be good enough to extract it as there was no silver platter from which we were served. Yes, best faculties were on board and they taught fantastically but still a lot of self-work was required to complete B. Tech from here. The best was that we had many internship options like my dad is in Infosys, so he got me six months internship and I was passed in mid-term and just have to give final semester exams. So, the college is quite supportive too and full credit to them for giving students their own space. It was a fair contest between all the students because everyone was presented the same opportunities but as I said extraction has to be done on our own. Some people hardly reported to club activities or been a part of college events. I pity them as SIT Pune offered us one of the best campus lives.

Of all the engineering colleges in Pune, I consider SIT as the home of all the engineering colleges. No college can beat the academics that SIT has. They have brought the latest curriculum as many industries have put up their own things and therefore, we learned the things that industry needs today. So, the syllabus was appropriate to make us industry ready. I was pleased with all the academic activities as in engineering you are bound to spend 7-8 hours at the college and we too had to do that. So, in all fairness, the academics of SIT was an action that can never be missed.

SIT’s faculties were handpicked for sure. All doctorate with at least 30-50 or rather 100 research papers of their own. So, their credibility was there to be seen for everyone. They were loveable as they have been kind and generous towards students. However, not so generous when it came to markings. I will credit the SIT faculties to create that sort of a situation or platform for students where they can double up their abilities. So, looking ahead to that momentarily and will say they were the best artists on ground.

I was placed without any help from the campus but for all those who didn’t had any connections in the IT sectors too have grown in their stature leaps and bounds. Companies like Tech Mahindra, TCS, Cognizant, and others have come to college since its first passing out batch in 2012. From there till the time, I passed out the number of companies coming for recruitment has not just doubled but have been at least 5x. So, if anyone remains unplaced from Symbiosis Institute of Technology Placements, I pity them. The average package offered to B. Tech students of our branch was around 5 lakhs and highest package of 14 lakhs. So, SIT Pune Placement were pin point and placement percentage was somewhere between 70 and 80.

SIT has three blocks of girl’s hostels and the hostel rooms were big enough to accommodate two or three girls. I stayed in three-seater rooms for the first two years and then relocated to two-seater rooms for the final two years. The hostel was a perfect place for birthday celebrations, casual gatherings, and bitching which happens a lot at the girl’s hostel. The ground floor of the hostel building had a TV lounge and it was spacious to have all hostel girls being accommodated at once.

The college gate to end was just few buildings a road adjacent to them will trees planted all over. The seven storied academic block had 5th and 6th floor reserved for CS department. As we had 20 odd classrooms considering the number of students that enrolled for our branch. There were indoor and outdoor sporting facilities but were small as the college doesn’t have much areas to have a proper playground. The 600-seater auditorium was the best architect of the college and college café obviously the best hangs out zone at the campus.

Well, infectious should be the term because one will get infectious to the campus life of SIT. Only the engineering crowd meant smart brains around us. The girl’s ratio was obviously less but thanks to our department where it was 30% and overall, the ratio was 75:25 in favour of boys. Though the girls were not discriminated and were provided apt security. The hostel gate was impossible to crash post curfew timings. Now talking about the events that college had it were amazing. All the festivals were celebrated at the campus along with the annual cultural fest “Reverb”. There were multiple or hoards of events organized during the cultural fest from fashion, food, gaming, literature, theatre, and art among others.
