Internships and Placements at IIT Roorkee

Studying at Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee has been a great experience so far. Due to presence of India's most brilliant minds, the competition here is too tough which provides us an environment to grow naturally. The academics here are very strong, with some professors being descent to some being excellent. Courses are challenging too. The campus life is too exciting providing the safest and comfortable facilities like clubs, events, festivals, labs, library, etc. Internship and placement seasons are very stressful. Although a lot of fortune companies make visit here but 20% students remain unplaced. Overall it feels great to be here. Students are allowed to visit outside the campus anytime here and the location of campus is so good that all the hill stations are at few distance and here Himalayan explorer club which allow students to do trekking with institute' responsibility.

I chose Chemical Engineering at IIT Roorkee because I was always interested in understanding how industrial processes work and how they impact our daily lives. During first year in institute all the course are same for every branch and the core courses are taught from second year onwards. Admission process requires clearing JEE Advanced exam after qualifying JEE Mains. Once admitted semester based academic system prevails. Each semester includes 5-6 courses on average including theory and practical. Exams are held twice every semester midterm and end term exam. And other than that quiz are organised twice every semester. Overall the academic structure is demanding but rewarding. Some courses might feel irrelevant sometimes but new curriculum has been introduced including AI and software applications in the courses.

The fee structure at Institute of Technology, Roorkee is competitive compared to private institutes. It is around Rs. 1,38,000 per semester for a normal student including their tuition fees, hostel residing fees, mess charges and other charges for extracurricular. Students having low family income can apply for scholarships and merit based scholarships are also provided here. Student belonging to SC / ST community have to pay only tuition fees of Rs. 38,000. Some other govt. Schemes are also there for scholarships. Most of the students get reduction in their fees.

The faculty at chemical department is highly experienced, knowledgeable, with most professors holding Ph.D from prestigious institution in India or abroad. Their teaching methods include theoretical lectures using slides or boards as suitable, tutorials, and practical labs. They are approachable and encourage questions. The bond between professors and students is professional yet friendly. They also mentor students for research projects, internships and career guidance. Faculty members are actively involved in research works. Each student is provided a faculty advisor to which they can directly contact for academic discussions.

Placements at Institute of Technology, Roorkee are one of its strongest aspects. The placement process is well organized. Some pre-placement training like mock interviews is also provided. Top companies from various industries including core engineering, consulting, finance, IT and research visit campus every year. Most of the students who get internship in their pre-final year receive Pre- placement offers from companies. Average package of IIT Roorkee is around 17 LPA.

The hostel facilities at IIT Roorkee are generally good, providing a comfortable living environment for students. There are separate hostels for boys and girls. Different hostels are provided during first, second and third year of institute. During first year the room is triple sharing provided with basic facilities like bed, study table, wardrobe and high speed internet. Double room is provided during second year. And single room after that. Rooms are well maintained and clean. Each hostel has their mess serving three meals every day. Food quality is descent. Hostels also have gym room, TV room, play room, parlor for girls and laundry is also provided. There is 24h CCTV monitoring. Many events are organized and festivals are celebrated constantly in every hostel. Hostel is called as Bhawan in IIT Roorkee so for each bhawan a huge event Bhawan day is organized every year.

The infrastructure of Institute of Technology, Roorkee is impressive and constantly evolves to meet our needs. The campus is spread across 350 hectares of area with modern buildings, housing, lecture halls, laboratories, etc. The lecture halls are spacious equipped with air conditioning and heaters. Labs contain all the required equipment and are well maintained. The Library is extensive with wide range of books and online resources. Library remains full during exams in campus. Campus also has club rooms for cultural and technical activities. And there are numerous cafes on campus functioning 24 hours.

Campus life at IIT Roorkee is vibrant and full of opportunities. There is so much to explore. The institute crowd is diverse; students come from all parts of country and also some from other nations too. There are numerous clubs providing all activities like dance, drama, art, fashion, photography, business, software applications, coding, machine learning, robotics, automobiles, culinary, aircrafts, music, block chains, etc. These clubs provide great opportunity to interact with different peers and grow up. The clubs are student driven, allowing members to organize workshops, competitions and events. Other than that all kind of sports facilities are provided in campus including athletics, swimming, football, cricket, volleyball, tennis, carrom, badminton, etc. There is also a Place named students club which have PS5 for students to play. The fests here Thomso and Cognizance are the limelight, many celebrities are invited every year and lot of events are organized. There is also a cinema club which displays new movies in convocation hall twice a month for students. Overall IIT Roorkee is a great place for enjoying your institute life.
