Analyzing OUTR Bhubaneswar's Tuition Fee Structure Affordability

Odisha University of Technology and Research is one of the most recommended university in Odisha due to the academic performances and placements of its students. The faculties and facilities are good enough. Many of its students are now IAS officers, IPS officers, got placement above 40 LPA from Microsoft and Amazon like MNCs, and even two of them are now vice-president of Maruti & Suzuki motors and assistant scientist at NASA. It has some sports background and even there are good technical clubs through which many students get access to various projects and internships. It is important to know that there is no ragging inside the campus till now as per me. The teachers are highly cooperative and will concern for you as they care for your future indeed. The Canteen area is decent and everything is fine and well priced.

The requirement are simple:-minimum 45% in 12th board, a good JEE Mains score (recommend, do not get in through the OJEE counseling as the probability of getting better branch is very less), for Odisha students there is home state quota but for outside students whose parents are working here or some like living here in Odisha, to get admission through the quota, there is some kind of written test in Odia language and at the end all basic documents are required (residential, mark sheet, employer certificate and your special privileges related ones) for finally getting admission in the university. Here many trending courses are available like CSE, CSE (AI & ML), IT, ECE, Mechanical Engineering (AI & Robotics), etc. I am a student of Computer Engineering at Odisha University of Technology and Research. The real motive is that you are getting a lot for giving a little. For example, good placement, good quality education and lab accessibility, very affordable fees, many good options for technical clubs and sports, and large campus. Note that it councils through JEE Mains ranks first and then the counseling of leftover seat are filled up through counseling for students qualifying OJEE and students with lateral entry. Exam is strictly done but not a matter of seriousness. There are basically four exams and the exam is consisted of two quizzes, one mid-sem, and at the end it is end semester exam. Including that there are assignments which you have to submit in the same way as the quizzes are done. One assignment is given before mid sem exam and you have to submit it before the deadline given by your considered professor. You have to appear in the end semester much seriously, because at the end, you have to secure more than 7.5 CGPA for good company placements.

The total tuition fee for the regular courses is almost half of the tuition fees of the SSC (Self Sustaining Course). In case of Computer Engineering, the tuition fee is around Rs. 45,000, including Rs. 5,000 of the seat acceptance amount (Rs. 40,000 + Rs. 5,000). The 2nd and 3rd year tuition fees are around Rs. 30,000. The Fourth year tuition fees are somewhat Rs. 39,000 rupees. The Food in hostel will cost only Rs. 27,000 per year and the housing will cost you Rs. 10,660 per year.

The faculties of Odisha University of Technology and Research are very cooperative and they really care about you. Some teachers are strict but for your good. Now the chemistry professor, Mr. Biswajit Samantray is a very good professor who has also written a book. Our Basic Electronics teacher is Narayan Sir, who is graduated in M.Tech from IIT Bombay. Our ETW sir (ETW - English for Technical Writing) was once a master trainer for Infosys and our math teacher had done his Ph.D from Ravenshaw University. Most of them had more than twenty years of teaching experience.

Yes, it does have a placement cell but I am not so clear about it processes and eligibility as I am a first year student. But to my extent of knowledge, the highest package that has been acquired is nearly 42 LPA and the average package is near 7 LPA. This is however same since 4 to 5 years.

Actually our university does not provide residential facilities for all the students. There are selected students who get the room on the basis of their rank and distance from their own residency. Let me tell you that the hostel for boys and the hostel for girls are separate. All the girls live inside the university campus including the first year students and there are two hostels for girl. In case of boys, there are four hostels for the boys and two of which are for first year students and the other two are for students of second year or onwards. Only the first year students' hostels are situated outside of the campus and other are situated inside of the campus. As I don't know much about the girl’s hostel as I am a boy but some general information like your outing is restricted from 7 P.M. for the first year students and 11 P.M. for other hostels. You get food 3 times a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner). However the food is okay and I myself eat in the hostel mess.

The campus of Odisha University of Technology and Research comprises of 100 acres of land, of which most of the land is undeveloped. There are many old buildings as it was established 24 years ago However, after it was declared as a University 3 years ago, many buildings including laboratory building were made and were equipped with many latest equipment and machineries. Also, many buildings are still under construction like boy’s hostel and new classroom buildings, etc. There are basically seven buildings: block A, block B, block C, and block D, Laboratory building and canteen. However, there are three canteens and six shops including a book shop. It has many reading rooms and mostly two libraries. All the classes are organised in the rooms on the top floor of the buildings and the offices are on lower floors mainly in Block A and Block B. The block A and block B buildings are connected and similarly the block C, block D and the laboratory building are connected. At the side of the laboratory building there are the mechanical workshops including civil engineering, fitting shop, welding shop and the machinery shop. Also near the laboratory building there is Nescafe which is recently opened. And the canteen is near the block A and ahead of that there is an open ground for sports and NSS. There are two entrances to our university; one is right in front of the ground and the other one is on the main road to university. For your kind information many of the buildings are under construction including the main gate. Each classroom has a sitting capacity of nearly 80 students and they are no smart class rooms. They do not have any AC. Our university has a conference hall, libraries, proper labs and reading rooms. Above all the top floors of the new buildings are way too good, means the sceneries and the beautiful breeze are too good when compared to the university.

Overall campus life is fair but don't expect much from here as of a national level. Although, there are a lot of students studying here including B.Tech, M.Tech and even Ph.D, the university won't seem to be crowded as it has large campus and buildings. There are many clubs like Zaira, Spaturn and more. And you can join them in first semester, but I have not because in second year it is mandatory and so why to bother now. They do a sort of exams for selecting the students for second round and then they take you in the club through the performance in the interview. If you are eager to know about the fests and cultural activities, then I would say that there are a very few fests and cultural activities. For me, it is all okay but the only thing I don't like is the distance of the first year students' hostel from university.
