COEP University Hostel Life: Affordable Living with Unlimited Meals

The overall experience at COEP (University of Engineering Pune) Tech has been really great. The teachers and faculty here are very welcoming. They help us in any difficulty in academics. Apart from academics, there are regular events in the university in almost every month. The university was building in 1856 and has the British era construction. The thing that makes this university different is that the university not only just emphasis on academics but also on physical health and mental health of the students, organizing various competitions, events and quizzes that keep students interested and make the well equipped for the real world

I am enrolled in B.Tech that too in Computer Science. Since childhood, I have always been interested in gadgets like computer, mobile, and electronic stuff. So I always wanted be an engineer. You can get admission in the university through JEE Main Or Maharashtra CET but the score generally goes high (Above 99 percentile) for Computer Science. In boards, you need to clear certain aggregate in PCM. The admission process is carried through CAP rounds. There are three CAP rounds conducted for admitting students according to their percentile. We have total of eight semesters in 4 years that is 2 semesters per year. Each semester has 2 exams, mid sem (30 marks) and end sem (60 marks) and the remaining 10 marks are internal marks that are given by respective teachers. Making a total of 100 marks for each subject. In first year, the subjects are mostly general and same of all courses. The subjects start to specialize from 2nd year. There are many extracurricular subjects like Indian knowledge, communication skills, etc. that help student develop basic skills like talking, thinking, listening, etc.

The fee for CS is Rs. 1,35,000 for a year for general category. The fee varies according to the category. My fee is Rs. 1,20,200 for a year. The tuition fee for general category is Rs, 15,000 there is no tuition fee for other category the students. Development fee is Rs. 60,000 and other fee is Rs. 60,000. There is registration fee for CAP Rounds. There are various discount for students that are admitted through reservation quota. There are many scholarships available for students like MahaDBT Scholarship scheme and reliance foundation Scholarship. The MahaDBT scholarship provides the tuition fee waiver for OBC students, that are Rs. 15,000. The reliance foundation Scholarship provides Rs. 50,000 every year.

The teachers of my course are well-versed and deep knowledge about the subject, they are teaching. The faculties have qualified from renowned institutions. Most of the teachers prefer using PPTs while teaching as it saves so much time and teachers are dive deep in the topic. But they also use blackboard when need to explain a topic. The faculties have through knowledge about what they are teaching and they are always eager to clear doubts of the students. For every 100 students there is one teacher for each course and subject. Almost all the teachers are friendly so it's very easy to approach them talk to them and ask doubts.

There is a placement cell present in the university call COEP placement cell manages the placements of the students. The cell keeps providing students with information of job or internship through their mails. During the final placement, it calls companies to hire students.
There are many guidance lectures and training lectures about what is going on in the industry currently and how should students prepare themselves for the placements and job.
Many renowned companies visit the university like Microsoft, Wipro, google, TCS, Toshiba, Finiq, etc. Average package for my course is around 17 LPA and median goes around 15 LPA. The highest package a student was offered was 55 LPA for Computer Science. But the highest package received in whole university was 87 LPA last year by a manufacturing student.

The university has its own hostel campus just at a distance of 500 meter from the university that makes it easier for students easy to visit university at any given time. The buildings for boys and girls are different making it safe for girls as well as boys. The campus is divided into various blocks. Each block is a building and provides upto 160 rooms. The students of different years are divided into these blocks. The mess food quality is good according to its price. The price for a meal is around Rs. 50 and you can eat unlimited amount of food (except sweet). The staff maintains hygiene as they wear gloves. The mess provides two-time meal and two time snacks. Hostel fee is Rs. 45,000 per year, irrespective of the reservation category. First year students can't leave their block after 10 PM and girls can't leave their block after 9 PM but other students can go in or out of the hostel before 12 PM. My personal experience at the hostel has been really fun, I have total of 3 roommates. All the hostelites are really helpful and we do lot of fun together. The hostel campus is full of tress so I always feel fresh and refreshed in the hostel. There is a study room in the hostel campus.

The campus is full of trees and the construction of the university buildings is of British style that gives an aesthetic vibe to the university. The campus size is roughly 45 acres and it is located in the centre of Pune in the area of Shivajinagar. The locality is mostly commercial consisting of offices and businesses. The university campus is divided into different departments for different courses. For example, CE has its own department and ENTC also has its own department. The department is divided into many blocks of buildings. Each department has its personal library for specialized books. There is general public library at the centre of campus for all the students. The thing that makes COEP unique is it is divided into two campus, North, and south campus. There is a road that passes through these campuses separating them. Students can travel through them with help of a passage way created from under the road. This gives the university a completely new feel. For a classroom, the seating capacity is generally 100 students with each classroom having a projector and blackboard. There is different number of labs required for each subject making the subject more interesting. There two canteen in the two campuses of the university. There are two auditoriums in the university. The favorite thing about my university campus is the boat club. The river Mula Mutha flows just beside our university and at bank of the river, our own boat club is situated. The view from the club is refreshing and pleasing. All the lectures for the first year are conducted in a single building called academic campus that makes students easier to attend all the lectures at same place.

Overall campus life is very good. All the students are always cheerful making a very energetic vibe in the university. There are over 65 clubs in the university like mind spark, octane, impressions, etc that organize different events throughout the year. I am part of the mindspark club that organizes the technical exhibition and events in the university. It is the biggest club in the university. The university organizes different workshops, lectures, and competitions throughout the year to develop the skills of the students. Various fests take place throughout the year but the most important fests are Mind Spark, Zest and PSF. Mindspark is organized by the mindspark club that organizes different competitions throughout the event like hackathons, racing, boat fights, etc. and also exhibitions of technical stuffs like drones, virtual reality, etc. Zest is the fest that is conduct at the university level sports competition and PSF (Pune startup fest) provide students and young entrepreneurs to display their ideas. The campus life has been really good, the fests are awesome, the clubs are fun, the people are awesome everything about the university is excellent.
