Excellence at OIST : A Student’s Perspective

Overall Rating
Overall, Oriental Institute of Science and Technology will make you feel completely at ease. Don't ever forget the mental strength and stress has done to teen age and young students these days but then there's OIST who address all these issues. We have seminars on the same and beyond education. The senior are helpful and so is the entire staff, be it teaching or non-teaching staff. So, if I have to mention one of the best overall learning that OIST gives us, it's definitely the art of learning adaptation to the situation.
 

Academics Rating
Academics here are like changing of guards as earlier OIST was best known for tech fests and other things. However, now it's more recognised for its academics than anything else. They have introduced courses different than the other institutes and have made a makeshift from the university syllabus too. Our internals have totally new set of topics and our marking system is difficult too. So yes as they say no pain no gain, our academics are a pain but with a lot of gain.
Fees are nominal and state government scholarships are available to students who belong to OBC or SC/ST. Even merit based and sports based scholarships are in numbers. Having said that our fees are anyways quite affordable as a shade over Rs. 30,000 per semester is what we have to pay to study at such an illustrious institute.
 

Faculty Rating
Every time we have a crunch situation, our faculties know how to get over it. Exams are in a month's time and we still have syllabus to cover, our faculty know how to finish it off and that too with making sure that all concepts are covered and are understood by students. Push comes at the right time as they don't accept average and students who scoreless in University exams gets a harsh pep talk from them.
 

Placement Rating
Our placement cells are super active as come the 2nd year and students are asked to work on certain skills. A test has to be cleared as most IT firms now instead of checking the scores check how much have we scored in their assessment test. Among renowned companies that visited our campus TCS and Infosys are major contributors.
 

Hostel Rating
Yes our institute does offer hostel facilities but I don't stay there or have availed that facility. Besides hostel buildings there's a guest hostel building with 20+ rooms is also there.
 

Infrastructure Rating
Campus size is of 17 acres and it has well furnished classrooms to air-conditioned library and auditoriums. A medical centre is there at the campus. Sports are good as badminton courts to outdoor pitches, we have them all at our beautiful and clean Oriental Institute of Science and Technology campus. Parking area is also quite huge as nearly 50 institute buses and over 400 other vehicles can be parked there.
 

Campus Rating
Our campus life offers us opportunity to explore as we have events and fests at our institute but we are also sent to other institutes to participate. Last year over 60 students from our institute participated in Mood Indigo, IIT Bombay's fest. So a chance to explore and develop ourselves fully is what campus life of Oriental Institute of Science and Technology offers. I am still just 3 semester old at the campus but at least I can say not many would question about the campus life that we are offered at OIST.

    From academics to infrastructure, I don't see any melt down, as facilities in just one and a half year that I have spent here have only gotten better. Therefore, instead of saying that this could be better or die, we match our peers and the others I would rather be happy saying that whatever Oriental Institute of Science and Technology has is best....     I am going to make this review a little more personal. I have enjoyed every bit of my college life so far and I have enjoyed discussing or debating the same with students of other institutes. I have enjoyed every input that the institute has given so far for the students.     OIST happened to me after deep research and alumni chats. As soon as I learnt that I am not getting any top tier institute, I ensured that among the second best I would have the best choice.
