My Honest Thoughts on IIT (ISM) Dhanbad

Overall Rating
IIT (ISM) Dhanbad is known as one of the oldest premium institutes. It was established in 1926. Therefore, it is not a big factor that it is a new IIT. It gives all the facilities like the alumni network, the environment, and the exploration that you need. Most people think Dhanbad is not a safe area but I think it is a myth. The time I spent at this institute is one of the best memories of my life.
 

Academics Rating
I am from the M.Sc Mathematics and Computing branch. Therefore, I was into the institute via IIT JAM exam conducted by IITs. It required a decent rank according to your category for JOAPS counseling. I can say the Mathematics and Computing branch offers many opportunities. You can pursue it for placements or opt for a Ph.D. The professors are pretty helpful. There are 4 frequent exams in a semester, quiz 1, mid-term, quiz 2, end-terms, etc. Therefore, you always need to be prepared for the challenges in academics. Otherwise, its overall a great experience.
The overall fee is around Rs. 1,80,000 (for 2 years in total), including academics charges, tuition fee, hostel fee, mess charge, insurance money, and everything. You just need to pay in every semester. For the SC/ST category, there is no tuition fee. There is relaxation in every semester (total Rs. 32k for 4 semesters). In addition, MCM/NSP/state board scholarships are available for the students.
 

Faculty Rating
Coming to the faculty members, they teach everything included in the syllabus and the course structure is strictly followed by the professors. The professors are highly qualified, and many of them are from prestigious foreign universities. The method of teaching is fully dependent upon the course. They use whiteboards, and PPTs to explain things. Some professors are well behaved, and some of them are very strict. However, in academics, everyone comes forward to help you. Overall, it is a mixture of both good and challenging experiences.
 

Placement Rating
Overall placements are pretty decent in our institute. It is a plus point if are from the CSE, Mac, Petroleum, and Mining departments. Companies visit for on-campus placement for final-year students from December to March-April. Companies like Google, Microsoft, Uber, PhonePe, etc. visit. The packages are also pretty decent for a B.Tech student. For M.Sc students, many companies offer opportunities but it becomes competitive to crack a company being a Master's student.
 

Hostel Rating
The institute offers residential and mess facilities. They have double sharing rooms and the mess facilities are also available within the respective hostels. Girl’s and boy’s hostels are separated. There are a total of seven boy’s hostels and three girl's hostels available for students. Hostel rules are pretty strict for girls. They have to be in the hostel within 12 AM. The hostels are secured by guards. There are 24/7 guards available outside the hostels. One more thing, hostel fee is included in the semester fee.
 

Infrastructure Rating
The institute campus is wide with approximately 400 acres in the main city Dhanbad. It is fully greenery and beautiful. The main building is our heritage building which is 99 years old building. Our central library is large enough with 7 floors and there are two lecture halls where students attend their classes. There are seminar halls in the respective departments, Penman Auditorium, GJLT, Main canteen, Sports grounds, Swimming Pool, etc. Gym and Transport facilities are also available on the campus.
 

Campus Rating
I really enjoyed my campus life in these years. Around 8000 students are there in the campus. There are many clubs also. Every occasion and festival is celebrated on campus, so we enjoyed a lot. Two major fests, Srijan and Concerto are held along with several smaller fests throughout the year. The institute organizes many extracurricular activities, including Inter - IIT sports events, Hackathons, Music competitions Dance Competition etc. overall, it is a great experience to study in IIT ISM Dhanbad.

    For me, I have just completed my first semester here and starting to fall in love with my institute. The rain and the red color of ISM combine to probably give the best view. Not very big campus but still it seems largest when you are running late for the labs and classes. RD, Mehzban, Dominos, Barista are there to address the food craving monster inside you.     First of all it should be remembered that it's ISM before IIT. Overall experience is better. As a South Indian I felt difficult to connect with Hindi language and also to the food as most of our diet is filled with potato. The experience about studies is good.     Generally all know Indian Institute Technology is the best colleges in India which we get after clearing JEE advanced exam. Indian Institute of Technology which is also called as Indian School of Mines is a better college for future and has good scope in the future.     The campus of my collage is very beautiful. It has a lot of facilities and the canteens are just amazing. The faculty and the study model type are also very interesting and fabulous.
