Hindu College, Delhi University: Academics, Infrastructure, and Campus Life

I recently was enrolled into the Hindu College of University of Delhi, which was not my plan to be honest. However, God had other plans and I got admission into this college. Although it was not my first choice, I have come to love this institute a lot. The campus is as beautiful as a quiet sunset with the birds chirping around.

I am doing B.Sc (Hons.) in Mathematics that is considered quite difficult stream. This is because of all the proofs and theorems that you have to learn which might get a little boring. To be enrolled into DU, you first have to appear for Common University entrance test (CUET) conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA). After CUET results, you will have to create an account with Delhi University’s Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) portal and make a preference list. Then the college is allotted to you according to your preference list and you can upgrade, freeze, or withdraw your admission. This CUET exam is conducted once a year. The lattes cut off for my course was 690. The examination system at this college is quite easy as compared to other colleges as we do not have to appear for any mid sem exams. Only final exams are taken at the end of every semester.

The annual fee of this college is around Rs. 30,000. Multiple scholarships are also available for students who scored above 95% in their class XII exams. Financial aids are also available.

The faculty here is very friendly and nice. They teach really well and use mostly blackboards or projectors for their lessons. Although there might be difficulties for them to teach these many students but they are keen to help solve our doubts and understand the concepts better and even offer one-to-one interactions in case of difficulties. There are approximately 50 to 60 students per class. They even use practical experiences to teach the students

Hindu College is divided into various blocks: the old building, the faculty block, the new academic block, relaxing research centre, Bharat ram centre and many more (like a sports complex, a compost pit, etc.). The college also has its own rainwater harvesting mechanism to promote sustainability. There are two auditoriums in the college: The Sanganeria Auditorium (Main auditorium) and The Sushila Devi Auditorium. The amphitheater next to a small canteen is the most loved hangout spot of the students here. There is also a main canteen called as ‘Old canteen’. Apart from the sports ground, the college has multiple lawns for students to hand around. There is also a library divided into two sections: normal section and reserved section. The reserved section includes precious material for students to learn from.

Overall, the college life is good. However, you may face some difficulty making friends at first, as the people here can be quite competitive sometimes. Conversely, it is also a good thing as you adapt to the environment and it helps you grow in many aspects. The college tests like Suruchi and Mecca are the heart of this college. There are many societies in this college, which you can join to explore more. The crowd is really good and sophisticated.
