RGNUL Patiala is Top Choice for Law Education in India

As far as the factors that made me choose this college, I think the most important milestone for me was my rank. I got this college on All India rank 850 in CLAT in the year 2022. This college was allotted to me in the first list. After that, I had the chance to go to other colleges via vacancy but I didn't. What made me choose and stay in this particular institute was its outstanding infrastructure and academic facilities. Out of all the existing law colleges in National Law Institutes that are in India to date, RGNUL is arguably the most developed. The air conditioner was one facility that no other national universities had. The college is built on 55 acres of vast land and beautiful gardens and playgrounds for all sorts of sports and recreational activities. It's like a very mini civilization of its own. The IT hub and academic committees are well-developed with enhanced curriculums and well-qualified professors for the same. Hence even after I got the opportunity to promote myself to other institutes, I did not because I wanted to harness what was given to me by this very college.

I choose the BALLB orders 5-year course. I prefer this course because it's the most professional and the most empowering one as well. It gave me exposure to the subjects of social science and law. The 4th year is our year of specialization Where we can choose from 4 streams business law, criminal law, constitutional law or public international law. The entry requirements of this college are via the exam of CLAT. You will have to check your updated list and rank on the consortium of NLU's website. Once your name appears in the 5th and final list of the college, you will be called for some document verification. And given admission thereafter. After this, you will be given your college and the admission process will be completed. Since the syllabus is revised every year the new changing laws are taught efficiently with new updated material which helps the student to keep up with the changing aspects of law. After the UG course, the college also provides LL.M for one year in which admission is taken based on the CLAT PG rank. The college provides Ph.D course as well.

There are total 10 semesters and in fees is paid in 10 segments. For the even semesters the fees is Rs.75,000/- plus Rs.20,000/- mess fee. For the odd and the bigger semesters the fees is Rs.1,21,000/- and Rs.20,000/- making it a total of approx Rs. 2.50 lakhs per year. On the website of the consortium of the NLU’s you have to pay an amount of Rs. 30,000/- as security fees to the college which would be refunded after the end of the course. These fees include the tuition fees the admission fee the library fee the academic fee and also the hostel and campus maintenance fees. As far as the discounts and special fees provided for special category of students there is 100% scholarship on the tuition fees. For the scheduled caste and scheduled tribe students there is a fee discount of 100 percent. When you get admission in the Rajiv Gandhi College after being an student of the IDIA institute your entire fee is taken care of by the same. The 100% fees that is paid by the IDIA is also subject to certain conditions and special categories of students. IDIA has its centre in the college and it is well functional in taking care of the same.

We have very well qualified facilities. The professors are graduates and post graduates from top law institutes of the country and some are even from abroad. Debates and group discussions are done in class on regular intervals to facilitate the understanding of students on a topic and its various aspects. The number of teachers is ample and in major subjects like code of civil procedure and code of criminal procedure the number of teachers are 3 to 5. The faculties are quite friendly and approachable at anytime and by this I mean frankly at anytime. They are always there to guide and help and they do parts for the students that are out of their professional capacity like taking out extra time for their curriculum for judiciary examinations. Our college has teachers from National Law University Jodhpur National Law University Bangalore and other reputed colleges.

Our institute has a very well functional internship and placement cell. The internship cell brings out at least 20 to 30 internship opportunities per semester for students and who are interested for the same apply via the internship cell to get the internship done. Students from our college have gotten placement both in India and abroad in remarkable law firms. We have placement to the Invictus legal in United Kingdom, Lakshmi Kumaran Sridharan taxation firm, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas and TriLegal and even in the AZB Associates. The placement cell also manages the campus placement and companies that come to the campus and facilitates interviews of the students who are interested. It does a remarkable job of CV grading and places students in order of priority in front of the company so that the deserving students get the best opportunities. Apart from giving campus placement in firms the RGNUL Institute of competitive examinations is a cell that trains students for the judiciary and the UPSC examinations. This competitive examination centre has also shown great success in motivating students and helping them succeed in this govt. jobs.

Our college has great hostels and residential facilities as it is a residential campus. There are six boys’ hostels and five girl’s hostels. These hostels accommodate almost 1000 to 1500 people and the rooms are in double sharing till the 3rd year and single rooms are given for the 4th and 5th year. There are separate messes for the boys and girls that provide food. There are recreational rooms with table tennis and televisions in every single hostel for the students to enjoy. Hygiene is maintained in the mess and food is prepared with delicacy. You can enter the campus till 12 in the night. I have been staying in the hostel for two and a half years now and it is the part which I have most enjoyed. There are six washrooms and four bathrooms on every floor and every hostel is of three floors with ground floor given to the physically disabled students. The hostel have all sorts of service provider cleaning is done thrice a week. The warden office is open twenty four hours for any difficulties that the students face. Geysers are provided for student convenience in the winters. Any problems of students regarding the maintenance of any hostel facility is resolved within two days of maintaining a complaint register and a complaint register is also maintained separately for the food that is being served.

The campus of the Rajiv Gandhi National University of law is arguably the best campus of any national or university in India. The campus is built on 55 acres of land and is located 4KM from Patiala in the village Sidhuwal. A new national Sports University is being built adjacent to it. The campus is lush green with big gardens including Rose Garden and a big playground, basketball court, volleyball court, gym and two cafes which take care of the basic needs of these students. We have inbuilt shops for laundry, daily purpose products general stores, medical products and stationery shops in the campus, as well as we have a milk dairy as well. We have a fruit shop in the campus. To meet the needs of special students involved in sports and other activities we also get supplies of chicken and eggs from outside. We have a great Library of three floors, we have one huge auditorium which has the capacity of accommodating 1500 people. It is of 2 floors and we have multiple conference hall and separate centre of excellence of laws. We have a great administrative and academic block. The administrative block consists of various offices of the officers who run the college. Classes are in the academic hall where there are three classes for every year and the classes are well built, big and equipped with latest technology including projectors and video conferencing method for better teaching. We have separate washrooms for the LGBTQ Plus students. We have library with sources of over 25,000 books journals and other competitive exam materials. We are provided with institutional access of each and every law research app. The smaller classrooms have seating capacity of approximately 70 students and the larger classrooms have the seating capacity of 150 to 200 students. A canteen is also provided in the academic block so that students can get refreshments. We have a separate building of legal aid and a separate hospital building which has 5 beds available at a time for students with serious injuries or medical conditions. There is also an ambulance which is ready at anytime to take anybody who is serious to the city. We have two highly qualified army retired doctors in the hospital who are very gentle and caring. Students are examined and given medicines for free because the hostel fees include the hospital fee. We have computer labs for students who have trouble in finding laptops. We have a great digital library which facilitates students via IP login at any point. Apart from all these we have a great guesthouse of 25 rooms with king size beds for the parents to come and stay with minimum price of Rs 1000 of a day. Maintenance of all infrastructures is done regularly to ensure its smooth running.

The campus life in the college is excellent and provides great freedom to the students to excel and enjoy in any way possible. The crowd in the college is very diverse from various parts of India and some even abroad. There are various clubs and committees like the literary committee the drama committee and the Cultural Committee. Apart from that there are various centres of laws which provide exposure of different laws like information technology law, labour law, criminal law etc. They host their own events with guest faculty lectures and they take out opportunities for the best programmes of reading and writing for these students. We have RFMLR which is the 3rd best editorial board of business laws and corporate laws in India according to SCC Online. We have great sports festival ZELUS that is organised by the college every March where we host more than 500 players from across various law institutes of India. We celebrate various festivals via parties like Holi, Diwali etc. The college has permission to bring in DJs and sound systems for the students and also outside food vendors come to put up their stalls and let the students enjoy. Apart from that fresher party is organised by the senior batches for the junior batches every year. We have great sports and academic culture. In both sports and academics students are tested with regular quizzes and other leagues of competitions that determine the best of the best. Being a residential campus the campus life becomes much more fun. Hence overall it is a great experience to be a part of the Rajiv Gandhi National University of law.
